When I saw the Grippen at Farnborough Air Show many years ago the pilot used the canards as airbrakes to demonstrate its very short landing roll.

Gripen's looking very lovely by the way.

I think they are XML animated like this:

Code: Select all

<part>
  <name>anim_Spoiler_R</name>
    <animation>
      <parameter>
        <code>
	  (A:CENTER WHEEL RPM, grads) 10 > (A:FLAPS HANDLE PERCENT, percent) 99 > 50 * *
        </code>
        <lag>15</lag>
      </parameter>
    </animation>
</part>

<part>
  <name>anim_Front_Elevator_R</name>
    <animation>
      <parameter>
        <code>
          (A:LIGHT NAV,number) 100 *
        </code>
        <lag>10</lag>
      </parameter>
    </animation>
</part>
<part>
so each consists of two parts actually (the first turn them down during 'cold' phase, the second act as a 'reliable' landing spoiler) :wink:

Update.

No more on it this weekend until I have completed -

1) A Sheppard paint
2) 2 quick U-2 serial number fixes.
3) Complete and send the F-15C paintkit to Nick.

Anyway -
Cockpit started
Airbrakes done (P.I.T.A)
Small fins behind canards added
Some texturing here and there.

I think LOD 1 will come in around 6k polys, can't be helped.

Wow Kev that looks fantastic, could be as good as a full UI aircraft Model. Very impressive mate I bow to your greatness.

I agree with Nick, it looks good enough to be a UI model!

Simply wonderful.

I agree, looks amazing for an "AI" model.

Do they still practice flying those things off the highway system in Sweden?? That would be a cool addition to an AI package, a forward operating base out in the middle of the woods somewhere.

Full braking test using XML in place of the standard spoiler tags.

Using the canards as supplementary brakes SAAB got the Gripen down to a landing length of just 500ft.

You'll have problems and unwanted characteristics due to the custom XML code used to do the various animations.

For example -
If you have full flaps and the front wheel turning youll get all the animations for the braking happeneing (as in pic above).

Maybe you should do another version as a flyable one mate.

Lol no chance.

1) Would have to go up to a 36-40 sided fuselage in place of the 20 sided one currently.
2) Ditto for the wings, an increase in the sides.

Be a complete new model by the time I'd finished.

I'd rather do the AI 2-seat B version, if I ever find some 3-views for one.
All I've found up to now is the single seat A model.

I had that problem with the Jag, had to build it from the original with very little reference material and no 3 views.
