Support for F18's at Lemoore

Post by texxasal » 30 Mar 2019, 15:05

As a new user of MATRIX, I installed the Global and North America packages into my Prepar3d v4 environment.

When I turn the traffic sliders all the way up to maximum value, I can only see a few (+- a dozen) F-35's on NAS Lemoore (KNLC).

Where are the F-18''s?

I'm just wondering what I've messed up in the installation, or have they not been added to the Matrix system as yet?

Any assistance is most appreciated.

Thanks
Al

I have just downloaded the NA region and had a look in the Matrix NA region folder and the F-18s are there as are the traffic files.
Lemoore is not as up to date as it should be but F-18s are definitely there.

Can i assume that the F-35s were added as part of the Matrix update as well, or were they manually asses?

Thank you for your prompt and informative response.

My apologies for the tardiness of my reply, but I was endeavoring to double-check everything to ensure I had my "ducks in a row".

First, I can now report that MATRIX is functioning marvelously (at least so far as North America in general, and Lemoore in particular).

Second, the F-35's I observed were part of the Prepar3d v4 installation (the aircraft was a "default" and came with P3dV4, so when I turned on traffic, they appeared

Third, the F/A-18 traffic did not appear, so I then carefully uninstalled the regions, and Matris. I then carefully inspected/examined the P3dV4 installation and removed all references to MAIW and Matrix. Next, I installed Matrix, Global, and North America without incident. When I started P3dV4, the Lemoore apron's and airspace were populated.

At his point I would conclude that my ham-handed efforts at installing the product caused some sort of conflict/contamination which prevented the traffic from working properly. In hindsight, I most probably improperly responded or missed completely the prompt to enable MATRIX Global, and North America.

My only ongoing concerns at this are:

1. how to reconcile the "AFCAD" parking layout which came with my scenery (Henry Street's excellent KNLC, available at Dino's site). I hope I'll be able to come up with some way to get the Lemoore layout from Matrix to properly align with my scenery.

2. Many of the aircraft inserted by Matrix onto the general parking ramps are loaded with ordnance (bombs, rockets, etc.) In the case of Lemoore, and every other NAS I know of, there are NO weapons allowed on the general parking ramps. All ordnance is loaded, and the aircraft are stored on the East Ramp, commonly known as the "CALA" ramp (Combat Arms Loading Area). I would believe this is addressed in the aircraft selected for traffic, and where they are assigned to start/stop their flights?

Thank you so much for your help. Lemoore looks so much nicer now with airplanes on the ramps, and in the air.

best regards
Al Rosenberg

Well, addressing the second issue first, possibly the easiest way to overcome the weapons issue is to modify the F-18s aircraft.cfg file with a text editor and substitute the name of either clean fit or tank fit models. Of course wouldn't have any weapon fits but it would be closer to what you want.
The second point here is that any updates to the NA region would wipe that change out so make sure that you keep a copy of the modified aircraft.cfg(s) so that you can easily copy them back again later.

On the first one there is no other way other than to mod the afcad that you are choosing to use using the Matrix one as a template. It can be easy or difficult according to the airfield but my guess would be that this is going to be trickier than most due to the number of parking spots.

Glad you got your main issue fixed.

As an update: I have the Matrix "NA", as well as the rest of the world, operating smoothly, and efficiently. When flying, I use VoxATC software as my controller, as well as AirNav FS Live Traffic "snapshots" just prior to launch, and it handles the entire mess smoothly.

I noticed a difference between the "AFCad" from MAIW, and the one that comes with the scenery for Lemoore (Henry "Uchi" Stree), which is remarkably detailed and faithful to the air station. It also lays perfectly on Google Earth from 2018 imagery. To synchronize the parking so the MAIW AI aircraft appear properly, I've begun modifying the AFCad from MAIW, using Airport Design Editor. So far, I've aligned Ramp #5 (NW Hangar), and will continue to work on the rest.

Thanks for a marvelous product, which significantly enhances the flying experience around the world.

regards

Glad that you are getting closer to what you want. Don't forget to keep a copy of your modified afcad safe or the next NA update will wipe it out with the original MAIW one.
