Re: A brand new MS Flight Simulator is coming...

I would agree with that. I can see that there is a great temptation to stick with the master plan of any project but really there should be an oversight person who looks out for new techniques and/or hardware that and then brings it to the project manager with a view to persuading them to change the...

Re: A brand new MS Flight Simulator is coming...

One thing that is particularly frustrating at the moment is the lack of support for DirectStorage. An area that the product has struggled with from the initial release has been frame rate performance. Here is a technology, developed by MS, to improve the performance by allowing GPUs to load and expa...

Re: A brand new MS Flight Simulator is coming...

My take on the current situation is this. Asobo are currently well behind the drag curve when it comes to AI. This is,as I have stated before, is due to the more important non-AI related aspects of the sim. As I would expect. People do not buy MSFS to watch AI, they do it for a better flying experie...

Re: Selfridge ANG Base - MSFS

My gut feeling is that they knew it would take years to cover everything to everyone's satisfaction, lets face it the target subject coverage is vastly bigger than any other sim. I believe that this is why the business model is buy once and update constantly, rather than a new one every two years. V...

Re: Selfridge ANG Base - MSFS

Looking at this issue from a distance it seems that the vast majority of their focus is flying, scenery and performance. I would not criticise them for these priorities. They are what the vast majority of MSFS users want. I would go so far as to say that I wish that it would probably have been bette...

Re: FSX - RAAF Gingin (YGIG)

That generally means that either there is no valid exit off the runway or no valid parking to go to. Check the afcad for errors.

When you say landing do you mean on final approach, after touchdown but still on the runway or something else.

Re: Problem with texture converting (FSX/P3D > FS9)

I thought that I had posted a response but its seems that my VPN address is automatically blocked by the MAIW site. What I suggested was that FAIB schemes were different from most. The alphas are different in FS9 to the the rest. What you have to do is remove the alpha first. Then convert then add t...

Re: AI model

OK the first thing to check is what are the schemes, .bmp or .dds? If they are .dds then use MCX to check that the model has been converted to use the same naming standard as the fs9 model with the exception of the extension being .dds. I have seen it where conversion have changed the naming standar...

JIm, it happens to us all.
Every so called expert has done a similar thing. What makes people experts is not that they don't make those mistakes it is that they learn from them.

Re: P3Dv4.5 crash on startup

Well done on the diags. Some times it can be time consuming but sometimes there is just no other way of doing it. Of course the question I would ask now is when did you install SPLP? It would be annoying if you remembered that it was the day before the problem first happened. If it was some time ago...

Re: P3Dv4.5 crash on startup

I would like to think that Office updates did not cause the issue but I couldn't categorically clear them. My first choice would be to clear everything out and reinstall from scratch and add the hotfixes and then see if it runs OK. If it does then add back the addons. My understanding is that you do...

Re: P3Dv4.5 crash on startup

So Jim, You have tried a complete re-install and ran it w/o addons and it still fails, is that correct? If so, then following on from what Tim says it sounds like an incompatibility with either a third party add-on or with the OS itself. I don't suspect the OS, as it is 7, UNLESS there was a securit...

Re: Dans bits & bobs

I can in no way be considered an expert here, but what I do know is that converting from one sim to another involves manually converting all the animations to the new sims standard. If you do not know the settings then, and unless you have the source - which you won't, then in some cases you will be...
