Re: Matrix 2 Development
I suspect this might be going beyond the brief, but would there be a way of using Matrix to access the entire MAIW download library? I understand that in essence it's about installing only current airfields, aircraft and flightplans, but it would be great if it could be a bit more flexible and allow...

Re: Bases I'm playing around with...
Chris, I can’t remember exactly why I started my own AFCAD for it. I think I was jumping from base to base in the area, noticed that a T-45 was at the fuelling point at the stock Kingsville and then discovered that there were flight plans in Matrix for the whole Kingsville fleet. So I added parking ...

Re: Bases I'm playing around with...
I mentioned the other day that I'd been working on some quick-and-dirty minor airfields in Texas as a bit of light relief from Finningley. All are for P3Dv4. Some results: KNQI Kingsville NAS. There's a full set of flightplans in Matrix, but in P3D you're stuck with the stock airfield. This is a mod...

They’ve certainly used Henry’s stuff before, and I’m pretty sure I’ve seen reference to an agreement for that in their forums.

Re: Texas Minor Bases
I've just had another look at the Pensacola/Whiting area. The Matrix installation covers a couple of the active NOLFs, and most of the rest are at least included in the stock airfields. There are around 12 that are either still in use or have been so reasonably recently. A few that exist in the sim ...

Re: Texas Minor Bases
Yes, and the ones around Pensacola/Whiting, FL as well. I’ve done a few of those in the past, and some are already in the download library or in Matrix. I should add that I’m not proposing to do traffic files for these airfields; I’m not familiar enough with local operations to put together anythin...

Texas Minor Bases
As a diversion from the details of Finningley, and because I got in a bit of a mess trying to convert the p3Dv5 KRND to work in P3Dv4.5 (ho hum!), I got interested in the auxiliary fields and NOLFs in southern Texas, most of which are relevant to the major bases already covered by Matrix. I've basic...

Re: Boeing 767 Military Derivatives
If the USAF and Congress had known about all the issues that they would have with these would they still dumped the KC-45? Yes I know its a hindsight question, but still. This is big politics, Steve, and I'm afraid the answer is almost certainly 'yes'. Ask the operators, and I'm sure you'd get a di...

Re: MAIW and Prepar3DV5 ?
Absolutely, Greg. I've found with my own stuff that the differences between stock locations, Orbx and Google Earth can be significant, and at some point you have to settle for whatever works best for you. Hopefully v5 will mean the differences are smaller if it uses a more accurate mesh and vectors ...

Re: MAIW and Prepar3DV5 ?
I'm sure you're aware, Greg, that Jon is fairly advanced with the dev edition of ADE to support P3Dv5, and it's been through several iterations already. As my faux pas with Randolph showed, there are - as you say - considerable differences with v5 which do complicate things, but Jon and others have ...

Re: Boeing 767 Military Derivatives
Chris, thanks for the information. For now I will leave as-is in the hope that the roll-out of paints keeps up with the deliveries by Boeing ! Mind-you there is a worry in many forums that Boeing could go under after the Max debacle and Covid chopping the floor out of the Airline business. Boeing w...

Re: JYAI C-130J Specials
Looks excellent, John. A very small critique: the astrodome should be slightly closer to the centreline. It replaces the flight deck escape hatch and gives access to the centreline walkway on the top of the aircraft. It's offset about 18" from the middle. Just for interest, here's some pictures...

Re: P3D v5 Randolph Air Force base
Y’know what, Greg, I have no idea what I did! I think it must have been a late night... When I tried the conversion again today, I couldn’t get it to compile - which is understandable, as the v5 XML contains several elements which the v4 SDK won’t understand. No matter. Your conversion of JS’s Rando...

Re: P3D v5 Randolph Air Force base
Greg and Darren, you're quite right of course! I must have had my head in a strange place when I did the 'conversion', and I can't remember exactly what process I used. I've just retried it and it didn't work! I certainly had some variety or other of the v5 KRND within my v4.5 Scenery folder under C...

Re: P3D v5 Randolph Air Force base
Well, that’s really strange! All I did was import all the bgls from the v5 KRND to ADE 1.79, then save it in v4.5 format and place it in v4.5 in exactly the same place it is in v5. As far as I’m aware, I don’t have any other versions of KRND. But it’s quite obviously different from your screenshot. ...

Re: P3D v5 Randolph Air Force base
I'm pretty sure that's the John Stinstrom Randolph scenery that I converted for Matrix... Really? This is lifted direct from the default P3Dv5 installation, and I’ve seen it credited to Orbx somewhere - I think in the P3D forums or maybe elsewhere on LM’s website. Edit: yes, it’s in the Lockheed re...

Actually, the pilot from Marshall's who flew it when it became the A400M engine test-bed is also an old mate of mine, though I've lost direct contact with him these days. But I guess you're not planning to do that version of 208!

Re: Thoughts on the next project
[snip]....That said, I'm happily working on C-130 W2 "Snoopy" at the moment. I like variety and new challenges to keep me going. Hope that helps, John Hi John. Just noticed this. The last captain of XV208 is a very good friend of mine and a current pilot at Virgin (though furloughed and b...
