Just heard on the local radio, UNCONFIRMED reports of an "ejector seat problem" and that the pilot has been taken to Lincoln hospital with "significant injuries"......MoD is not commenting at the moment, but NO reports of a death

The BBC is now reporting that a Red Arrows pilot has died after being ejected from his aircraft whilst on the ground - again, still NOT confirmed by the Ministry of Defence, but according to the BBC the RAF did confirm the ejection part....not looking good for the Reds this year

MoD has confirmed a Red Arrows pilot has been killed this afternoon after being ejected from his aircraft. His name and rank is being withheld although his next of kin have been told. Investigation has been started. Witnesses say there was a "very loud" bang. Possible ejector seat malfunction as his chute did not open.

Geez, what a horrible year for them. Condolences to his family. That's the last thing you would think you have to worry about.

I can't recall hearing of an accidental ground ejection in recent years.

Is that a zero/zero seat in the T1? Anyone know?

According to the MB website, it is "Zero/zero in near level attitude". All the specs are here

and there is an interesting site about ejections here

If the poor guy was not properly strapped in when it went bang then
I don't suppose it matters if it was a 0/0 seat.
