This will be the state of our military with all of the budget cuts.

Tsk tsk, it's not a budget cut, merely a sequestration - the stardboard main gear will be made available next week.maddog65 wrote:This will be the state of our military with all of the budget cuts.

Re: OOOOOOOOOOpies
May have to do a search over at F-16.net to find out the story on this one.

I think that pic has been floating around for a few years now. If not there's one that's similar.

Re: OOOOOOOOOOpies
Just a guess, but looking at the fluid on the deck, perhaps a hydraulic failure - either that or the crew access ladder was too heavy!

I love the pushbike and alloy ladder in the background, is that part of the emergency response cuts.
Re: OOOOOOOOOOpies
It could be the case that this is a kids toy. That's not a power generator connected to it, it's an air compressor and it's slowly filling it with air.

What kind of idiot pulls the pins out, then you have to ask, what kind of idiot plays with the gear lever, period, without the AC being on jacks.
I bet they lost a bit of brown stuff when she collasped.
Almost as good as the bloke who forgot to place the castle nut on the wheel of an RAAF F1-11. Reminds me of Kenny Rodgers song; You picked a fine time leave me lose wheel!

Re: OOOOOOOOOOpies
Back in the day I pulled the tough duty of monitoring takeoff and landing times from beside the runway during an exercise where our VT ANG "Deuces" flew ~60 sorties. On his last of several sorties one of our pilots made a great landing, but had the misfortune of retracting his gear instead of deploying his drag chute. He immediately realized his mistake and redeployed his landing gear, but not before his left main gear collapsed and he rolled out on his nose gear, right main gear and left wing tank, trailing a 50-100 foot trail of sparks off the wing tank. Fortunately he never left the runway, there was no fire and I think the only losses were a worn out wing tank and his pride.
Of course he also had to live with the new moniker that we gave him of "Slidin' Clyde".

You would want to keep that tailhook over your mantle piece after that episode.

Now that's a very novel approach to the problem of not enough space
on the flightdeck. Not sure it will catch on though

Isn't this what they do after washing the aircraft, hang them up to dry?

Re: OOOOOOOOOOpies
What's the story behind that one? I'd be interested to know how the crew got out.

Re: OOOOOOOOOOpies
I have no idea of the story behind that but I'm sure that tracking the serials back would provide an answer.
Looks to me like the crew could have simply unbuckled there belts and took the ten foot drive. The seats are still in the airframe so it was probably more the case of a crewless runaway?
Another question, did they retrive it or cut it free!

Re: OOOOOOOOOOpies
According to this (scroll down to page 54/55, it's between 28/29 if you use the Scribd page thing), it missed all the wires and got caught. The pilot jumped clear of the cockpit and was recovered. There's also a spectacular pic of a TF-9J splashdown after it failed on launch.

Re: OOOOOOOOOOpies
Yeh I did a bit of digging but couldnt find a solid answer. What I did find however was a gory catalog of incidents for the F-9 which makes for very disturbing reading. They looked like they were a bloody menace

They sure do look ungainly although I see the Blue Angels used them for a while. That was a great link to a booklet that gave alot of info on the F-9 history, well done finding that.
Below are some pic's I found contained within that info should any of the retro AI developers be interested in this model.
Cheer's,
