RAF Gütersloh P3D restarted....

Post by Manschy »

Due to John's wonderful Wessex gift I restarted RAF Gütersloh after careful consideration.
While testing my first seasonal improvements I made these cold morning impressions

No, I get stuck in P3Dv4.5, but ETUO will also run in v5 at least (as RAF Brüggen does...). I feel optimistic about it also will run in v6.

Regarding the lights and appearance, I was surprised too. For the shots, I put all (dynamic) lights and shadow options to "Ultra". When you use dusk or dawn, the sun lighting is doing the trick to get almost same light effects like MSFS do (in my opinion by comparing forums shots...)
I use a little more contrast and depth, and reduce the colour intensity a little - that's all to let the old P3D appear very fresh.
But using these settings for a flight? Hard to say 8)

Brüggen certainly works in v6. I haven't found many airfields that don't, to be honest. I must try your settings and see how good I can get the photos!

Enabling Dynamic Lighting and using Dynamic Reflections at Ultra with all Shadows to the right works great. And using the sunlight angles by doing experiments with the time preview option to get the best possible light alignment on the objects.
That done, you will need only few improvements with contrast and depth...
Furthermore, the shots appearance is also reletive to the screens resolution. I only have 2K, so a shot will look much more real if you use a higher resolution - mostly seen in the MSFS shots these days....
But not sure how many new features v6 is offering. Could be interesting.

Manfred, are you able to adjust contrast in P3Dv5.3? I would dearly love to do that, but I haven't yet found a control for it. I have sliders for brightness and saturation, but not contrast. Also, how are you adjusting "depth"?

Sorry, I wrote "that done", which means depth and contrast are to adjust with a paint programme additionally after the settings inside P3D and making a screenshot.
But there is a nice additional option inside P3D which is called "Enable HDR lighting ". Within, you can also play around with brightness, saturation and - fine for better lighting effects when using Dynamic Lighting - "Bloom", I didn't use it though.

Here are the original shots I made without any editing:

It is still atmospheric, especially if you use appropriate weather and light settings :D

Yep that still looks pretty good Manfred.

I have yet to find any control in P3D that adjusts contrast, which is too high for me. It's why I prefer FSX for screen shots.

Any options on your PC monitor? It take a long time to me to find the correct adjustments.
So if I would use FSX now, maybe all settings may look wrong....
Oh, and I noticed that using the weather settings with "unlimited view" is much too sharp and costs a lot of frames. 48 or 32 miles view is much softer and makes the shots look so much more real...

I have tried for hours trying to adjust controls in P3D for better lighting Manfred. I'd rather control contrast within game, otherwise I would have to adjust monitor settings back again every time I closed P3D.

MSFS default is absolutely fine, as well as FSX.

Sorry, finished to edit my last post just half and hour later than your last post, John. So second part had a delay unfortunately...
I understand the problem with switching between several sims because of designing probably. Changing the settings each time is no solution...
