Excellent video!

Mike, I am very impressed with the vertical "pop up" when taking off!

The slaving/coordination of the gunners head to the chin gun and the camera definitely makes this beast come alive, Nick.

This is probably going to be one of the biggest hits you guys have had.

Very well done.

Looks EVIL Nick - nice job!

Reminds me of a video clip I once saw of US helicopters set to AC/DC's "Thunderstruck" - awesome!!

Ford,

I am not sure if this was addressed to me or not, but the vertical "pop up" during takeoff is actually an animation that Nick created in his model and he deserves the full credit and all the kudos for it. I just created the turbine engined AI helicopter flight dynamics that seem to work pretty well in conjunction with it.

Mike, very gentlemanly of you to note that the "pop up" movement wasn't part of the FDE as I assumed. Still, I liked the movement of the FDE/helo in the video.

Nick, sorry for my faux pas. More kudos to you then on that "pop up"/animation!!!

I first thought that this takeoff was not done by AI but by Nick piloting it  It looks really great and real!

Is there also a way how you make it sound like a chopper?? :?

Because of the limits of FS9 I can't recall a true choppersound...

Love to hear that.

But anyhow she looks so cool!!

There isnt Im afraid but I can recommend for those of you who are going to be using it alot and want to fly with helicopters all the time, you can change the file in FS9\Sound named "xai_twinturbo_01.wav" to the sound of a helicopter from a flyable aircraft. I changed mine to a sound from the Alphasim Apache and it sounded amazing. The only problem is that all your other turbo prop AI will also sound the same, including Hercules and Mentors.

You'll have to choose one or the other Im afraid, and you can get Apache soundpacks from avsim and flightsim.com

OK I thought it would be something like that....

Those are the limits of FS9 and even Nick Black can't fool those

Thank you so much for your quick answer and all the best of luck with your fantastic work!

The best I could do was create a novel turbine engined AI helicopter FDE in order to eliminate the piston engine sound used by all previous AI helicopter FDE's based off the Stemme Motorglider. As Nick indicated, any improvement beyond this turbine engine sound requires changing the "xai_twinturbo_01.wav" file to a flyable turbine engined helicopter sound of your choice.

Hi,

Couldn't you alias the other turboprop sounds to an empty sound folder and just go without sound to the other turboprops as a give/take trade-off?

You cant alias sounds to AI aircraft like you can flyable ones Im afraid. They take their sounds from the FS9\Sound folder and will only use the ones that are supplied as default. The only way you can upgrade them is to change the sound file itself.

I thought I read somewhere that in FSX you can actually assign a custom sound to an AI aircraft. Any of you FSX'ers know off hand??

Doesn't seem to talk about installing to AI aircraft though.
