helo AI
When doing AI flight plans for helo's is there any speical considerations you have to do? I found an AI CH-53 that I was going to put at Kaneohe Bay.
You may want to consider doing an "overlay" afcad for them, so they don't use the runway and taxiways in the same way as fixed-wing aircraft (see examples of this in the latest MAIW WAH-64 Apache release). Then when you do your flightplans, route them to the overlaid heli airport instead of the usual one.
Just an idea...

Or purchase Heli Traffic 2009 (works in FS9 and FSX) and let the external AI engine control the Heli action of your installed AI Helicopters so they lift off realisticly and you can make your own flightplans for your installed AI Helicopters and install helipads where you want them.

Steve.

re: Heli Traffic 2009
On the random traffic you set a height above ground. What about height restrictions ie low level flying.
On the scheduled traffic you can set each scheduled flight to any particular height. I have some at Ft. Campbell flying treetop level. You can also set individual landing spots with different angles of descent. Set waypoints along the way.
One big fault at the moment, is the scheduled flights start randomly, at different points along their schedule, so no formation flights, but they are working on changing that in the next update, by allowing fixed start points and times. Works great with the Navy and USCG helios, where this is mostly not the case.
If I can get some time, I will post a vid of some of it.

Hawaii CH-53s
Not 100% positive if they are still there, but 15+ years ago USMC HMM-365 was based there, flying CH-53E. My kid brother was a flight engineer on one.
I add this to the thread just in case you get all working correctly and want to do some repaints, at least you will have an idea of who they belong to...

CH-53Ds are there.
These are probably the only 2 engined variants still with the Marine Corps.
I have an old friend who commanded one of these squadrons a few years ago and I asked why they never got the 53E there.
It was a peculiar story line in response. Something to do with hoping for MV-22 Osprey sooner than later.
Either way it makes for good AI scenery...

Do a search on here as there is a thread on it exactly how. I just finished doing one for the SH-3 package by lewis to get them to use helipads and not clog the runway as NAS Jacksonville, FL. Basically you are making a separate AFCAD with only the links, ie no runway/ramp visuals to "overlay" the airport you want. Runway has to be 500' for the AI helos to use. Also most helo traffic patterns are lower than fixed wing.
