I want to try painting but i cant pay for repainting software

I think you can download older versions of Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro for free can't you? Have you tried searching around the internet to see if those are available. I know they are out there legally, not pirated software but legal free downloads. There is some catch as I remember but the downloads were free.

You don't absolutely need one of those but it really really helps to have a program that can paint in layers.

I do enjoy gimp 2.0...works nicely and then all that is needed after that is DXTBmp. (For minimalists)
