Post by DaleRFU »

Hi everyone.

Well after much thinking I have decided to but FSX (Gold Pack) and give it a test drive and see how it goes. I dont quite intend in leaving FS9 at the minute tho. So I just woundered what people thourght of it and the using MAIW packages in it?

Kind Regards

How's about reading the entire thread on this subject?

I think that if you have a fast enough computer to run it, it is quite a bit better than FS9 IMHO. What I like in FSX also, is a facility to watch ai aircraft from the control tower view. This is good at say Nellis where you can watch them taxi & take off & also track them on the radar screen.

As mentioned, a whole bunch of threads dedicated to installing MAIW packages into FSX, and once you start you will become VERY familiar them and the installation guide.

I waited forever to just have a machine to run FSX. After that, a few payware add ons came out that really pushed me to switch. I spend about 95% flying military aircraft, so the ability to closely match military operations (dropable objects/weapon packs) and moving ships being the main reasons.

Most of the packages seem to take the conversion fine, no issues and I am happy to see my airbases populated with MAIW traffic in FSX. Before in FS9, I had a system that I used to install and modify any AI traffic and it became second nature. I feel I'm having to relearn a few tricks due to the huge differences between the sims.

There are several of those freely available for FS9......

You can use a combination of:

Mobile control tower, @ Avsim, file name="mct074rc.zip"
Traffic View Board, @ Avsim, file name="tvb_v2.1.zip"
FS9 Traffic Tool Box (FS9 Traffic SDK), @ FSDeveloper, Traffic Tool Box

Mobile Control Tower is an "aircraft" that you can position anywhere and it makes use of the Eric Marciano freeware radar guage. It however will not track an AI aircraft, it's simply for viewing.

Traffic View Board tracks the AI, and is the most useful.

In the Traffic SDK, there are two nice AI trackers including a radar type display, these can both be run as separate windows in game.
