Typhoons at nellis
Reading aircraft illustrated the other day, I understand that a few typhoons are out at nellis for a few weeks. I wonder what our american buddies think of it?

I would like to see some results of it going head to head with the F-15, F-16 and F-18 standard and SuperHornet models. Probably would beat all but the Superhornet in a close in dogfight. The F-16 might give it a good run for it's money in the right pilot's hands.

Probably would, even with the Raptor's 2D thrust vectoring. Of course all of the Raptor guys will tell you that the Typhoon would never get close enough to get into a close in fight, it would end up dead having never visually seen the F/A-22.

Thats the reason Im out in Nellis at the moment is with the Typhoons. They have been impressing alot of people, not least with their dry-take offs, that the F-15 can only dream of. Rumour has it that it has been up against everything but the raptor and whooped them all. Easily!!! They wont let the Typhoon and Raptor go head to head yet because it would ruin one or the others contracts. I think the yanks are just scared its gonna paste them.

With all the slagging off the Typhoon has had in the British papers it is very refreshing to see Nicks coments, (Big smile on my face about pasting
the yanks). But seriously, I think the 2 aircraft will have a hell of a fight in close, but at long range the rapter will rule. Only time will tell.
Another thought, how many typhoons could you buy for the cost of a raptor?

PS any chance of some pictures Nick, or is it a bit hush hush.

Hey Nick
I have been in Vegas for the past two days and I brought my scanner. I have been scanning in the afternoon and have heard some intersting callsigns. I have seen alot of F-16s, fewer f-15s and even fewer f-18s. I have heard the callsigns Raven 1, Party 1, Tiger 41, Rambo (various) and two others that sounded like Easy or izzy and another that sounded likecamel or camo. Can you shed any light on the F-18s that could of ben at nellis early this week. I was thinking they might be from the east coast navy squadron VFA-87. Any other clue on the others? Thanks and I fill like crap I lost 340 dollars here in Vegas in my spare time outside of my airline conference I was attending. Ouch. Oh well I have more details on the specific clearances and routings the jets were getting out to the ranges if anyone wants to know.

Look forward to seeing the photos Nick.
Matias, you can`t go to Vegas without having a little flutter on the fruit machines but $340, thats a bit steep mate.
Looking at the other threads it looks like there may be a Nellis scenery out in the near future. It looks good & I cant wait to get it on my computer.
