I'm working on a modern AFB scenery in FSX. Question of fuel trucks came up on building the AFCAD. Do modern heavy military planes (e.g. C17, C5) fuel in place via trucks, or tow/taxi to a fueling site for refill?
Also when loading a KC135 for fuel for other aircraft, do they have a dedicated site?
Thanks.

Here at Kelly we fill in place with trucks and with an underground fuel hydrant pits. Same thing for our fighters as well. The only time we taxi to a fuel pit is when we are praticing hot pit refueling.

the 135s that we had in grand forks were fueled the same way, the only time i ever saw a non pit refuel was when they were parked on the transient (bravo) ramp, and that was done with tanker trucks instead of pump trucks.

If you guys ever upgrade to FSX which I know is never going to happen, one of the cool things is that you can call up a fuel truck, then watch them drive across the ramp and back up to fuel your aircraft. I need to find out if I can replace the stock GA trucks with mil style AI tankers.

I think you can, but I think it would happen for all airports, rather than just military ones.
