Re: Buchon and JU-52
Very timely post Jon. I finished the Ju-52 packages yesterday.
The modelling was actually quite straight forward up to the point where I had to change window and door configurations for 3 different models. Boolean cuts are not the most reliable of tools at the best of times, but when you have to patch windows and keep the lighting on the fuselage even, it can be really tricky and time consuming. The big breakthrough though on this project and the Buchon too, was a suggestion by "Tranquil" that I might want to create the PSP master texture sheets in 2048 x 2048 format and either convert them at this size or re-size to 1024 x 1024. I didn't want to risk downgrading the performance with the massive texture format and I'm aware that some users don't have graphics cards that support them. However, drawing the textures in 2048 and then resizing to 1024 is so much better that trying to draw in 1024 in the first place. I hope you can see that in the results below. I'm grateful to Stevo at ACG who made the Ambient Occlusion layer in the textures for me (it renders the shadow directly with 3D Studio Max) and the bump maps for the FSX versions.
There are 6 aircraft in each of the FS9 and FSX packs - the German G-AQUI, the French F-AZJU and the 4 Swiss aircraft that are flown by Ju-Air at Dübendorf in Switzerland, including the aircraft that Martin flew on this year:
Finally, I've made a simple AFCAD and flight plan for Dübendorf for the 4 Swiss examples:
Martin has the FSX package to check over this weekend. If he's happy, I'll be uploading along with the Buchons after that.

Really nice John. Another great aircraft subject to grace the AI stable. Well done.

Re: Buchon and JU-52
Ju stole me some hours last night, John
She is an incredible nice flying jewel. The reflections are absolutely stunning - don't know if it is because of the corrugated metal or because of Stevo's ambient occlusion layers.
I was so much reminded of two months ago in the real one. The prop is great. She flies great. She is good to go.
May I publish some shots already?

Re: Buchon and JU-52
Thanks everyone for your kind comments. I try and learn something every time I make a model, but this one surprised me too.
Actually the "reflections" are not reflections at all but just the gentle application of some dynamic shine applied with the Gmax material settings. It's probably the hardest thing to keep under control because it's so easy to distort the smoothness and once it gets distorted it's often very difficult to correct. The lighting on the silver Ju-52s was a pig to keep smooth because of the Booleans for the windows and doors in different configurations. The AO layer adds some subtle shading and the bump map in the FSX version adds a bit of depth to the corrugation.
I'm glad you like the end result Martin and by all means post some screen shots. I'll upload the packages early tomorrow morning so they should be available to anyone who wants them later in the day.

Re: Buchon and JU-52
Thank you very much for your beautiful models John. With Douglas C-47 Dakota , NA T-6 Harvard and now Junkers 52 (Amiot AAC-1 Toucan in France ) I have several months of repaints of retro French Naval Aviation and Air Force in front of me!

Glad to be able to contribute to your creativity too jcapde.
I uploaded the Bouchons and Ju52s to flightsim.com a few minutes ago, so hopefully they will be available later today. The files are:

Re: Buchon and JU-52
On flightsim.com now - but be aware that the sites download bandwidth is maxing out at the moment - can't think why
Re: Buchon and JU-52
Thanks John. Just installed the Buchon and the Junkers and have been watching bash the circuit at Duxford. The scenery, and the aircraft, take me back to the Flying Legends show I went to there a couple of years ago, really fantastic.
I don't know how you manage to produce so many top quality models, and do them so quickly, but I'm glad that you do. I'm eagerly looking forward to you next project.
Cheers
Derek
