P3D v3.1 - AI Models Visibility
Hi all
Its a short time that I have switched to P3D v3.1 and its also time to install again my AI packages, that I always liked and had/have fun with them!
I have 1st installed a self made package which is using some aircrafts from this package "MAIW (Military AI Works) USAF 48th FW RAF Lakenheath" but I have some problems.
It seems that everything is working fine, except that when the aircrafts are starting to TAXI and I am guessing when the TAXI lights get ON, they disappearing and only the NAV lights are visible. The whole fuselage is transparent.
Do you think has to do with the textures, model or effects maybe?
And by the way, they had worked with FSX 100%.
Thanks

Re: P3D v3.1 - AI Models Visibility
OK,
I have seeing that the original textures are at DXT3 format and I have converted to DXT1. At the beginning I thought it went everything good.
I have 1st checked at DAY time but when I switched at DUSK the problem occurred again.
This has something to do with P3D I think but no idea what could causing it.
I have checked also NIGHT and I assume the same will be happening at DUSK.
Thanks

Re: P3D v3.1 - AI Models Visibility
I have observed another thing,
I am not 100% sure but I think it depends also of how much ZOOM you are using, to much they disappear, maybe it has to do on how near to them is you at the moment. When you are closing suddenly they appear again!

Re: P3D v3.1 - AI Models Visibility
Christopher,
The Nav lights normally act as a switch to close the canopy and hide the ground support equipment like ladders and chocs when the aircraft departs. There should be no influence on the textures. Maybe P3D V 3.1 has a different interpretation of the xml code that triggers the event. What you last described looks like a LOD issue, but if it worked in FSX it should work in P3D.
Can I just be clear please - are the aircraft F-15s and are they from an FS9 package or an FSX one? If it's FSX, the aircraft will have .dds textures. Can you also tell me the name of the model in the first model folder please? Once I'm sure which model is in play, I'll try a test. I only have P3D V2, but it might tell us something.
John

Re: P3D v3.1 - AI Models Visibility
The details below are copied from the files HTML file,
USAFE 48th FW, RAF Lakenheath
Version: 4.0
For FS 2004 / FS9
Initial Release Date: July 2007
Package Integrator: Barry Taylor
This package introduces the Boeing F15-E AI model by Nick Black
and NO "dds" files are inside for sure.
Is there an FSX version available? I'll check at OWLs but just in case there isn't one there.
Thanks

Re: P3D v3.1 - AI Models Visibility
OK,
I have found this package "http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?Ca ... LID=191590" with a reference at OWLs but I think its not the correct one, textures are different.
And, sorry I forgot, the models name is, the 1st one is named "clean" and
[models]
normal=NBAI_F15E_Strike Eagle
thats from the "model'cfg".
Will a texture conversion to "dds" be enough and solve the problem? I'll try it anyway!
Thanks

Re: P3D v3.1 - AI Models Visibility
Christopher, I've produced F-15C, D and E models in FSX native code that should be far better in P3D than old FS9 models. There are also some repaints available for Lakenheath aircraft, but I can't recall at the moment where they are uploaded. I did upload the FSX models to the Download Library, but they are also at Avsim.

Re: P3D v3.1 - AI Models Visibility
Hi again,
I have made a small traffic package to test them and all its working fine, no visibility problems, great aircrafts.
Thanks again John

Re: P3D v3.1 - AI Models Visibility
Yes, John has been great in having the foresight to create FSX NATIVE aircraft in addition to the FS9 models. Alas he is only one man. It does appear that some of the other MAIW consortium is finally starting to come around though. Now if we could get some FSX/P3d Hornets and Tomcats...... Who am I kidding, I want the whole damn carrier air wing! Lol -Woog
Re: P3D v3.1 - AI Models Visibility
I use P3d 3.1 and switched out the NBAI ones for John's. works fine. Slowly working through all the packages and getting them working.. Some scenery issues, but I use UK2000 and FTX for UK so most bases are covered, just have to create a good afcad and do parking.

Re: P3D v3.1 - AI Models Visibility
Another observation,
same thing is happening as I have described for the "NBAI_F15E_Strike Eagle", this time I am talking for the "KRMG_AI_T-6A_Texan_II_AI_ONLY", from this package "Hellenic AF - Hellenic Trainers Kalamata AB V.2.0" "http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?Ca ... LID=173486".

Re: P3D v3.1 - AI Models Visibility
Unfortunately, I think we have to live with these issues, until the original authors get around to converting them to be FSX native models. Either that, or new FSX specific models are created. Luckily, the available texture Resolution of the newer sims has been increased dramatically. If and when the new Ai models are created, they can be made to look that much more detailed with texture alone.

Re: P3D v3.1 - AI Models Visibility
Has anyone
looked at the "NBAI_AH64_Apache_AI_ONLY". I am not able to see any rotors while is flying.
At texture folders there is only this texture "NBAI_AH64_Apache_T". I have checked some packages but they all have only this texture inside the paint folders, is that correct?
Thanks

You are missing three files in the main fs texture folder, Chris
