Thanks for the quick tutorial Gavin, I'll give this a try on the P-3s. Shouldn't take too long as the USN is pushing them out to pasture.

De-compress the archive, then go to:

JAI PC3 Variants FSX\JAI PC3 Variants FSX\PC-3\Alpha

Sorry, I should have been clearer, I'm converting all of my C-130s.

Need to find the Alpha Channel for those.

Download & extract the file:

Lockheed C-130x Hercules FSX.zip

It contain these 4 zip files:

C-130_1.zip
C-130_2.zip
C-130_3.zip
C-130-4.zip

each representing a specific model. We take the first one as an example, the rest would be identical.

Extract the file C-130_1.zip

You will find the alpha channel in this folder:

Lockheed C-130x Hercules FSX\C-130_1\C-130_1\AI Lockheed C-130E\Alpha

Doe this makes it clearer?
Cheers,
Martin

Reggie,
I also am working the C-130s and found the lightmaps and Alphas on AIG forums. A user painstakingly worked all the Alphas for each variant and sub. LM now goes in your main FSX texture folder.

I put together those alphas and lightmaps.

Okay Gavin,
I followed the instructions and here's what I got. The aircraft are white but some of the textures change colors as I move around.

I'm sure I'm missing a step. Please advise.

Reggie, do you have the latest DXT2BMP program? I thought I did and found out I didn't.

I'm not sure and not at my computer right now. But I'm almost positive I have an older version.

That's the correct program and as Joe stated,4.00.97 is the latest. Initially during Gavin's mini-tutorial I was not seeing an option to "save as" in the older program, confusion set in.

Just uploaded an updated package that includes the missing WP-3D.

No offence to Jake but I sincerely hope that this got all of them :-)

I am in some serious need of head clearing this morning.
I was just about to upload the new paint for the NOAA WP-3D when I decided to check the night texture one more time.
Previously I had redone the alpha to match the window placement and added the alpha to the texture with DXTbmp and put the light map .bgl into the FSX/Texture folder.
This morning I opened MCX and loaded the WP-3D model, applied the texture and this was the result (as expected):
Image

Then I entered night mode - background went to night but the texture was still day.
Image

I said okay I'll check it in FSRepaint. Day textures were correct.
Image

Then I clicked night . . . . .
Image

I haven't loaded FSX and looked for N42RF in day and night yet.
I'm hoping it's just the morning fog in my head and it will burn off. What have I forgotten ?

Joecoastie
the yellow strip you are seeing in FSRepaint corresponds to the alternative texture layer for the cabin lighting display. If you rotate it upwards you should see a similar effect under the wings that is used to display the landing light splash.

I don't know if this is normal behaviour in FSRepaint or not as I don't have it. I re-checked the model that was in the updated package and it looks fine to me.

Please let me know if there are any issues when you get the repaint into FSX. It is possible I screwed something up.
