Airshoew Week

Post by MACC »

Patruilla Aguilla - Wow!! what a display team shame they couldn't use their coloured smoke more often. This was when the two side ones break off :-

Image

The Falcons - They C130K seemed to go over every now and again but I missed it when it released the team unfortunatley, but I was made aware by the fact it does a fly by and managed to get that :-

Image

The Typhoon Display - Well, what an amazing display from a very capable jet, i loved it. Lost of burners, tight turns and fast passes, brilliant :-

Image

Chinook - I didn't see much as it was pouring down, but I know it was a good display as I saw it. As per usual very energetic :-

Image

BBMF - The sun came out a bit for the BBMF, was nice to hear the buzz of old engines :-

Image

RN Merlin - Quite a bubbly display, came quite close too, only downside it never seemed to end :-

Image

Spitfire & Typhoon - absoultely stunning idea for whoever thought it up, unfortunatley I dont have a decent quality photo of the pair together but the typhoon came very close on a pass :-

Image

Mirage 2000 - One of the best displays I have ever seen, unless it was just the fact that the display line up lacked fast jets, but lots of burners and turns provided 10 minutes of jet heaven before ducking for cover :-

Image

Vulcan - Not much to say except thank you for at least taking out, shame I missed it taxi-ing out because of sheltering from the hell raising shower :-

Image

Reds - Shame they only got 8 up but still the general spirited display :-

Image

RAF Lakenheath - 8th July

Got to the right runway at LN at about 9:10 as the first pair of strike eagles took off, we heard with out ears, we passed the viewing enclosure as we didnt see the entrance to see about 12 F15C/D/E's all getting checked and some taxi-ing to the runway, it was very dull.

We stopped at the common place or people to take landing shot and went over the road, it was no use. When we went back over we found the viewing enclosure but it was too late.

We engaged in conversation from a local, and he told us where to go for landings (i'm not sure if he's on this board but he couldn't stay long as he had a base visit to Mildenhall.) whilst waiting for the landings the rain came on very hard so it was into the cars, until I heard a herc on approach, i went out but it was too heavy but it came around again.

Image

Most of the landings were too dark, but the sun came out for two of the C's.

Image

the belgian came round again, this time he landed and stayed down.

Image

As soon as the Last F15 had landed I was quite surprised as one came out for Last chance checks already, later I found out it was one that had landed 30 mins previous.

I went to the viewing enclosure and down the track

2 F-16AM's from Denmark came in (E-074 & E-604)

Image

Image

Finally the sun came out, so I thought I would get some good shots landing, i was wrong. One F-15E (202) had a severe flame-out (no pics though :( ) and the pilots jumped out the aircraft 1/4 of the runway and ran for it. Making Lakenheaths runway, black (radio terms).

while we were waiting for any F15's to come in, this came over, and round and half a dozen times.

Image

Still didn't manage to get sun for the F15E's that landed, the C/D's diverted to Mildenhall.

Heard the F16's request backtrack so a quick journey over (they were on the runway as we passed the centre) to the viewing enclosure side to get them.

Image

Image

We left Lakenheath, but decided to come back (after we had tea) to find the F15E's with their canopies up as we left were just starting to move, was a rush when we were going over the area where we could see the HAS locations we could see them moving.

A total of 8 went, 4 taxied over in sunshine, woohoo.

Yummy Burners
Image

We waited for their return, unfortunatley we got sun after the last had landed. It was quite hard just shooting hoping not to get any fence in the way (i was about .1 of a metre away from the fence)

And that was it, off to Lake FRIAT.
Something on the cards for next year.

C&C more than welcome.

Macc,

Great pics, you did a great job capturing them, especially considering the atrocious weather we've had recently.

UK military airfields (I'm not sure about other nations) use colour codes to denote a weather state (cloud base and visibility), blue being the best and red being the worst, black means the runway/airfield is closed for a reason other than weather.

Thanks for posting your pics.
