This hobby is begging for good AI specific Soviet models.
OK, maybe I'm the only one begging...
No Kevin, you are not the only one who is begging :D

I wouldn't say I'm begging, but it is suprising at the lack of Soviet models....especially since almost every non-western country flies em lol :D

Yeah.......... there is a definte lack of Soviet models

But I'm confident with such a terrific group like we have here and with enthousiasts all over the world that this will change in time!

So bring on the Soviet models! :D

In your own time naturally! :P

I couldn't resist it to take her for a spin. I got a canopy on it, still not happy about it, but at least I know how to make one now :P

No polygon smoothing? You're missing out! :D

Max do you mind linking your pictures to a third party website like imageshack or another site that will allow image hosting? That will allow us to make sure our site stays under its bandwidth limit and we can continue to host these great forum topics. Thanks.

BTW, she's looking great! Let me know if you need any help with creating shiny bare aluminum reflective textures.

Any poly count or verticie counts yet from FSDS?

I could use some help with creating textures and texture mappings.

Vertices are: 1610
Polygons: 1370

I remember saying something about the polygons, that you need to double the amount to get the real amount. But the polygons are going down, as a made the gear a bit complex for ai.

I think the factor that Rip came up with was FSDS reported polygons x 1.8 to get the actual number of polys.

Any reason you haven't turned on the polygon smoothing for the nose and other parts? I'm curious to see how it looks all smoothed out.

BTW, we can certainly help you on the texture front. The MAIW standard (unofficially) is a single 1024x1024 texture file in DXT3 format.

Can you please explain me how I can make a start on texturing. I guess I need to join all the parts to make one texture map? I have absolutly no experience with texturing, so its going to be a challenge.

And when I modelled the flaps, how do you get them to work. Do you need to go into animation mode and make a start and end position or something?

Well like everyone has said, you have come to the right place. As for the flaps, I'm not 100% sure. I thought I remembered seeing a tutorial in the FSDS help section on how to animate flaps. My first AI model in development does not have flaps. That's all I'm gonna say at this point so as not to spoil the surprise. :P

If there's nothing in the FSDS help section then go to the very last page of this forum, there are a whole bunch of topics started by Rysiek about how to do some of the things you are asking about.

As far as the texturing issue, you need to make a texture map for your model. To do that, take a look at this thread where I asked the very same question and Nick Black was kind enough to explain to me his method for making a texture map.
