MCAS Cherry Point Harriers Refueling

Post by Paul »

A couple of weeks ago I downloaded the excellent HJG KC-135R and thought it would be great to do a duel refueling scenario with the Harriers.

Is that PhotoShop or have we discovered a hidden talent for AI Flightplans?

Hey guys, thanks for your kind words. As far as PhotoShop.....nope, it's 100% flightsim. What I did was start the flight simulator at Cherry Point then opened up KNKT AFCAD set the lock on aircraft in AFCAD. Go back to the flight simulator and set it in the slew mod. Before you do that make sure you disable your joystick. For refueling I'll go out 150 to 200 miles straight out, the exact distance I'm not really sure, sorry. I just eyeball it using the map. You then go back to the AFCAD and

1. Place a parking spot where the aircraft is.....
2. The wingspan of the KC-135 is 130 ft., so I placed another parking spot 130 ft. horizontally to the other parking spot.
3. Put the arrow in the middle of each parking spot to get the exact co-ordinance and write them down.
4. Do the same going the other way.
5. Close the AFCAD but don't save the AFCAD

After that make your flightplans using the co-ordinance as the waypoints.

AC#2,490,"MAIW_NBAI_AV8B+_USMC_VMAT-203_164546"

FlightPlans
AC#1,165306,10%,24HR,IFR,16:00:00,18:10:45,200,F,1,R1,20:00:00,22:10:45,200,F,1,R2
AC#2,164546,10%,24HR,IFR,16:00:00,18:10:45,200,F,2,L1,20:00:00,22:10:45,200,F,2,L2

Airports
R1,N33* 45.72',W82* 30.76',1000
R2,N37* 42.87',W63* 40.99',1000
L1,N33* 45.70',W82* 30.75',1000
L2,N37* 42.85',W63* 40.99',1000

Then it's time to go up and meet them for refueling. I use the Kirk Olsson F-16 with radar to spot them and get with in 10 nm, then switch to the KC-135R to join up with them for refueling.

Sorry if I explained it badly.

Very slick method. Very slick indeed - especially due to its simplicity.

On some KC-135R aircraft they now have MPRs(mippers) or Multi Point Refueling. They are under each wing and provide a KC-135R aircraft with the capability of refueling coalition, USMC and USN aircraft without preventing boom refueling on a given mission. The screenshots above are using mippers. Although I didn't think any Ohio ANG had any aircraft equipped with them.
