talk about out of place transients...

Post by reconmercs »

Now granted RDU (Raleigh Durham International) gets its fair share of weekly military traffic, anything from the almost weekly Meridian T-45s and Whiting Field/Oceana T-34s to Seahawks from the west coast. There's also the Apache unit based at the airport, but for some reason for the last two days, there have been two RAF Tristars parked out on the FBO ramp. Anyone know of any exercises going around around the carolinas they might be here for?

Des

You would mean Tristars

Tridents are subs and if they are on the ramp its a very high tide!

Des,

Two 41(R) Sqn GR4s Left Conny earlier this week heading Stateside for Ex Highrider, so the Tristars may have been their tanker support? That's the Only RAF Assets that have headed stateside in the past week.

Des did you look up their flightplans on Flightaware.com ?

That will usually show you their IFR routing and you can get an idea of where they've been to lately.

The Royal Marines conduct exercises with the USMC in the Carolinas every couple of years. It's a pretty large deployment (for us  ), including air farce and naval helicopter support, ships, the works.

I'm not saying this is what they're there for, but if anyone knows of any big USMC manoeuvres taking place about now, then that would be my guess.

In fact I seem to remember a nasty crash at night a few years ago resulting in some fatalities on one of the previous events :(

Not sure what is going on. We had a Tornado stop at KGSB for gas 2 days ago. I also saw on af.mil that the RAF is at Ft Polk this week

We have no parking space at the present time. They are completely redoing the 916 ARW Ramp. We've got KC-135 stuck in every free spot of the ramp
