Installing MAIW packages in FSX
Re: Installing MAIW packages in FSX
Ahhh good, Martin is on the case.
I will keep an eye on this but as Martin actually has FSX he will be able to add specific knowledge in the quest to find the problem and solution.

Re: Installing MAIW packages in FSX
Steve, Thank you.
Martin, As for the two Questions, Yes to both. The only difference is that Traffic X is #6 and MAIW is #7. As you mentioned in the instructions to use the next number.
User Objects=Airplane, Helicopter
SimObjectPaths.0=SimObjects\Airplanes
SimObjectPaths.1=SimObjects\Rotorcraft
SimObjectPaths.2=SimObjects\GroundVehicles
SimObjectPaths.3=SimObjects\Boats
SimObjectPaths.4=SimObjects\Animals
SimObjectPaths.5=SimObjects\Misc
SimObjectPaths.6=SimObjects\TrafficX
SimObjectPaths.7=SimObjects\MAIW
Thanks, James

Re: Installing MAIW packages in FSX
OK, Martin, and Steve,
I figured it out, and I now have it. There is "Two" FSX CFG's in FSX, one is the actual CFG and the other is a text file that looks the same called FSX.CFG text. Since the text file is laid out the same way as the actual CFG, I was only making changes to the text file and not the actual CFG and was not the wiser. Also in case someone wants to know in the future these files do co exsists with Just Flight's Traffic X. Now the only thing I have is a frame rate issue with a few of the bases that have a lot of aircraft, such as Nellis and Luke. But I suspect that it is because there is so many textures.
Thanks to all that helped out.
James

Re: Installing MAIW packages in FSX
Well played, James for figuring it out. Also we appreciate you posting the cause of your problem, this all adds to our experience and is the sort of stuff that Martin adds to the FSX Guide to make it easier for people to convert.

Re: Installing MAIW packages in FSX
I love to see things solved when I come back checking
I will add a section to the Installation Guide that the successful implementation should be verified with AIAE. That and the remark regarding other FS9 traffic files (see above). I guess this is a great work for tomorrow

Re: Installing MAIW packages in FSX
For you FSX users, I figured out the issue I was having concerning the autogen bushes and buildings appearing with the addon scenery for Lemoore. Simply added an autogen exclude to the afcad and all is awesome again.

I thought I could find the FSX CFG's easily, but in fact I can't .
I'd like to try some things out, and I am very pleased with my Ultimate Traffic 2 with Aardvark and TFS planes, but this stuff looks promising as well.
Ultimate Traffic 2 is a seperate file in the Simobjects file and obviously directed in the same way as ;
User Objects=Airplane, Helicopter
SimObjectPaths.0=SimObjects\Airplanes
SimObjectPaths.1=SimObjects\Rotorcraft
SimObjectPaths.2=SimObjects\GroundVehicles
SimObjectPaths.3=SimObjects\Boats
SimObjectPaths.4=SimObjects\Animals
SimObjectPaths.5=SimObjects\Misc
SimObjectPaths.6=SimObjects\TrafficX
SimObjectPaths.7=SimObjects\MAIW
Now I want to add that MAIW file as well but don't know how to .
Can you please help me finding this FSX CFG ?
Ciao,
Silvester
Re: Installing MAIW packages in FSX
First of all, thanks for the FS9 to FSX tutorial. I have just spent most of the day converting all the packages. All has gone well apart from when I start up FSX I get multiple notifications of repeat model names. I have gone through the cfg files for the C130's and they all have different names. Can anybody tell me what I am doing stupidly?
Thanks
Adrian
Thanks

Go here, http://aifs2.pvdveen.net/?page_id=5, and download ACA2007 Light.
If you have a quick look at the Document page for it you will see how quick and easy it is to use. You must had .NET Framework 2.0 installed.

Re: Installing MAIW packages in FSX
Steve
Thanks for coming back so quickly. Problem solved! I had other folders for the same a/c. Now I have everything right except for one thing.......no traffic!
I have converted all traffic files to FSX and they are sitting in scenery/world/scenery in whch there are no rogue FS9 files. . My civilian traffic is working perfectly. Just no military traffic. Traffic level is set to over 90% and air traffic view mode shows only the civilian aircraft. I have all MAIW aircraft under simobjects/MAIW and all scenery and airports activated in scenery library (I have all new scenery and objects showing).
Any ideas would be much appreciated
Rgds and thanks again

Re: Installing MAIW packages in FSX
Well the scenery/world/scenery isn't the only place that traffic bgls can be placed.
We have had some traffic files that have been placed in scenery folders in some of our packages, an example of this is Coningsby. We have also included ground traffic bgl files, such as Maverick on a bike and Humvees. These may also cause an issue.
However, I believe that these only cause problems within a certain radius of a place that has these FS9 traffic files. If your civilian traffic is at or near the places that the mil traffic doesn't appear then this would seem to rule this out.
Another cause and possibly more likely in your case is afcad issues.
However if you have followed Martin's guide then we need to determine whether it is a global issue or more localized. What place doesn't have mil traffic and what place has civilian?
Please remember that UT2 uses a completely different system and so it must be non-UT2 civvie stuff.

Re: Installing MAIW packages in FSX
Steve
Thanks again for taking the time to reply.
The civilian traffic which is all WOAI appears to work in all locations. I removed all non MAIW traffic bgls from scenery/world/scenery to see if that would make a difference, but no. I do have the NellisHumvee file in this folder but I have converted it to FSX
I have followed the tutorial and placed all in the four folders MAIW Scenery, MAIWAirports, MAIWExcludes and MAIWlandclass. These four folders are in Addon Scenery. I have scoured these folders for any traffic files, but none.
I know Im doing something really stupid but I cant quite work it out yet. If you can think of anything else please let me know
Thanks again

Re: Installing MAIW packages in FSX
Well in that case if none of the aircraft show up it would sound to an un-believer, i.e. an FS9 user that your simobjects/MAIW folder isn't setup properly.
Can you post here that portion of your fsx.cfg here so that somebody that has it can see if there is an obvious mistake.

Re: Installing MAIW packages in FSX
OK, well if you have followed martin's guide then the system should expect the entry to be :-
SimObjectPaths.8=SimObjects\MAIW
Could you confirm that you created a sub-folder called "Airplanes" in the "SimObjects\MAIW" folder and all your aircraft are in that sub-folder?

Yes I did create the Airplanes folder, and all aircraft are in this folder. I thought that there may be a problem with this folder so just to test, I transferred all MAIW aircraft into simobjects/airplanes but still no joy.
Thanks again

Re: Installing MAIW packages in FSX
Progress!
I removed all traffic files from scenery/world/scenery then added all original unconverted FS9 traffic files, and I have traffic. Now I have to figure out why the problem arises when I convert the files?
