Re: NEW MAIW Forums

Post by tjwhite56 »

Hi Guys
More of an annoyance than a problem, but now when I click a link to an external page from a post, it won't open in a new window like it used to, now it opens the page in the same window that I am reading the forums on. I have to use the back button to get back to the post I was reading, when before it would open the link in another window and I could just close it when I was done and continue reading the post. It does this both in IE and Firefox, and it doesnt do it in other forums I have been in.

Thanks

Terry

Not sure how to fix that, it annoys me as well but I have not seen a setting in the PHPBB control settings to change it. If I could I would, but thanks to Graham's tip, that will help.

sprocky wrote:Is it just me or is there something wrong with the search function? It seems to me that results are displayed since October only.

Examples:
Keyword "smoke" returned two results. Both from Oct.2009
Keyword "mig" returned some more results but again written in Oct 2009 only.

BTW: I wanted to find smoke entries for MRAI MiG-21 a/c. Anybody having those?

TIA
OK I think I got this fixed. Try it out and let me know.

Yes, more results are available upon search.

Just one question though: is there a minimum number of letters/numbers required or are symbols excluded to start the search? "mig" did not return any result - "mig-21" also no result. "mig21" returned 6 results

Thanks in advance!

There are no settings like that in phpbb that I can find. I can set the minimum number of letters for a word to be indexed, flood interval, etc but that's about it. If it searches that way I would imagine it has more to do with they way phpbb is set up though if I'm wrong. I'm sure someone here will let me know. The ACP in this version is vastly different from the previous version.

The answer might be here

Cannot test it myself!

However opening in new window is more common. You usually do not want to loose your visitor to another site!

Yeah I'm not sure why the makers of phpbb decided to do that...other than the reasons stated on that page, of course. AH well, maybe I'll fix it one day.
