Re: Finningley 1990s P3Dv4

Some latest P3D pics with John's hangars and JPs. The ugly Orbx semi-photoreal background can be seen in some of the pics (goodness knows why it's red-brown in the centre of the field!) and I'm trying to work out how to obscure it. https://i.imgur.com/X0BdpvA.png https://i.imgur.com/PWCLaXC.png http...

Re: Thoughts on the next project

Tim, thanks for the advice of your re-alignment of Iwakuni. I don't want to get too far ahead at the moment because I still have the Jet Provosts to finish, but I can return to Iwakuni later. John Indeed, John. I don’t particularly want to get sidetracked from Finningley, either, but I threw that i...

Re: Thoughts on the next project

If you do these, John, I have already modified and edited Iwakuni to line up with the photoreal background that comes with P3Dv4. The only thing I can’t do is move your harbour to align with that background.

Re: JYAI Jet Provost and Strikemaster

You have to remember that C-type hangars date back to the 1930's so the brick is indeed going to suffer by the 90's. I've just sent you a link to a "goody bag" Tim. I suspect the rendering was probably part of the 1950s update for the V-Force. It’s probably relevant that these bases are close to th...

Re: JYAI Jet Provost and Strikemaster

John, I’ve just started watching those videos in full. The first thing that strikes me is that, in 1995 ALL the hangars are green. In 1992, just 4 & 5 are green. Both of these dates are after my time. I find it bizarre that the hangars were painted green after the Cold War was over and we’d stopped ...

Re: JYAI Jet Provost and Strikemaster

In those videos 4 and 5 hangars appear to be green, the rest rendered. To be fair, I never went up that end of the line under normal circumstances! But, having looked through the hundreds of Finningley airshow photos on Flickr, that appears to be the case throughout the period we’re interested in. I...

Re: JYAI Jet Provost and Strikemaster

I agree Tim, I've studied all the GE Historic imagery and the store is not there. However, two clues: The first is an extract from Wikki re Finningley in the Cold War: " The Cold War years and after Unit stores for atomic weapons were also constructed to house Green Grass in Yellow Sun, Violet Club...

Re: JYAI Jet Provost and Strikemaster

John, which Domini model and paints are you using in the Finningly screenshot? I found the HTAI HS-125 700 but can't find any red/white training paints for it. Thanks, Henk. It’s not a Henry model, Henk. It’s a JBS Dominie V2 available here with the later black paint job, and I found the red’n’whit...

Re: JYAI Jet Provost and Strikemaster

These are green C-type hangars in FSX native code at my test airfield Tim if you would like to use them. There is a third model with the doors open at both ends. All 3 should be fine in P3Dv4: I'll package these up for you next along with the Finningley Jet Provost T.5B's and some simple instructio...

Re: JYAI Jet Provost and Strikemaster

Gary, the Misson site and its Bloodhounds were decommissioned when Finningley was returned to the training role in around 1968. JPs and Bloodhounds do not go together in this context! John, all noted - and thanks! I’ve no idea what reference material you might have had, but it would obviously make s...

Re: JYAI Jet Provost and Strikemaster

Finningley is coming on. As John shows, it’s useable right now, but parking does need some thought. In my time there (1987-91), it was rare to see more than four or five Dominies on the line, and a similar number of JPs. It would indeed be useful to have the hangars accessible and open, as that woul...

Re: Thoughts on the next project

John, I'm quite sure that any aircraft you care to develop will get used in the old sims if you make them available, but I entirely understand the need to keep the workload manageable, and to focus your efforts on both the widest audience and to be able to adopt new technology without being compromi...

Re: Windows 10 file need

Sadly, the DVD drive I extracted from the back of the computer gubbins cupboard is dead. I shall order a new one, but that'll delay my FS9 experiment by a few days.

Re: Windows 10 file need

John, yes you’re quite right; FSX:SE is a download via the Steam client. I do have FSX on disk, but I seem to remember that FSX and FSX:SE won’t successfully sit side-by-side, presumably due to duplicated registry entries. Steve, I have found a DVD drive, so I’ll see if I can find time tomorrow to i...

Re: Windows 10 file need

Steve, I’ve recently commissioned a new PC from scratch, running Win10 1909. Doing some work with John, it would seem useful to have FS9 installed so I can compile stuff for those of you who insist on antediluvian software(!). If I can find my ancient external DVD player, I’ll have a go at getting i...
