Re: Real World Changes to MAIW packages

More info here: https://theaviationgeekclub.com/not-cost-saving-measures-behind-retirement-raf-two-seat-eurofighters/amp/ They are apparently removing the two-seaters from the OCU but some will remain elsewhere. Apparently, the bits are needed for spares. I thought we bought over 300 of the things a...

You’re obviously on a different update cycle to me! If it updates and changes anything, I’ll let you know.

Re: Flight Simulator is already running

OK, well it's not Win11. Although I rarely admit it, I do have FS9 installed and working on Win 11 (I just checked - yes, it still works!) just so I can see what some of the old scenery was supposed to look like.

My Windows build is 22000.739. (21H2).

Re: In Search Of (ISO) Static Aircraft Objects (FSX/P3D)

In my experience, Al, SAMM works really well and it outputs in exactly the format you're looking for. On top of that, you can input models from any version of Flight Simulator (FS8/FS9/FSX/P3D) and get a workable output. Sadly, Don is unwell and no longer actively supporting his programs but any pro...

Re: KECG Elizabeth City CGAS

That hangar group is looking like it’ll be 30mb or less; the photo ground tile I’m using for alignment is 234mb! As a comparison, the entire airfield photo background is about 60mb at LOD 18! So maybe it won’t work out quite as huge as I thought.

Re: KECG Elizabeth City CGAS

The screenshots are from P3Dv5.3. There’s no reason why it shouldn’t work in v4.5. I frankly doubt I could get it to run acceptably in FSX. I may try, but this will be a big file (probably 200mb) using 4k texture sheets as built, so it would need some significant work to make it compatible with FSX....

KECG Elizabeth City CGAS

Some of you may have seen this in another topic, but I started to look at KECG in connection with something else and got interested in the unique buildings there - which isn't ideal in a P3D/FSX context, as standardised buildings make life easy! However, it's a small airfield and it's allowed me to ...

Re: Windows 7 problems

I have another desktop in my garden office which is based on an old Gen 6 i5. The motherboard is an ASRock MiniITX museum piece, but the GPU is a 1080Ti, which means that the computer can run P3D perfectly well for most purposes. It's amazing how much difference a decent graphics card can make - whi...

Re: Windows 7 problems

Wow, that is a serious RAM hog if you are thinking of going to that. I did hear stories about MSFS and its RAM requirements and I was prepared, and still am, to go to 32GB. For me at the moment it has not been an issue even once. Like Tim says that doesn't mean that it won't be in the future. One t...

Re: Old Sarum

This project is moving on, along with moving goalposts! It's now going to represent the hangar at some time nearer when it was built (1917). The Belfast Trusses are a geometric nightmare to construct! I suspect this one building will end up near 100mb in size, so I don't think it will be usable as-i...

Re: Windows 7 problems

Not relevant to most of our sims, but one of my guilty pleasures is Cities Skylines. It's a few years old now, and perhaps not as efficient as newer games, but with any addons it just won't work with 16Gb RAM. MSFS uses a fair bit, and it's not going to get less as it bloats. I'm already thinking of...

Re: General MAIW Conversion Package issues

It’s been a problem for years. I thought it was an Orbx issue, but there may be some interaction with Lakenheath that causes it. I have seen it referred to elsewhere, but I have no idea where!

Re: Moffett Field KNUQ 1963-1993 (The P-3 Days) (+ Crows Landing)

I don’t think so, John. I believe there were a couple of Goodyear blimps there some years ago, however. Hangar 1 (the shiny one) was stripped of its sheathing a few years ago because of PCB leaking into the subsoil, but I understand it’s now leased to Google and they are going to restore it. For wha...

Re: Windows 7 problems

Is windows 11 any good. I've heard a lot of different opinions about. It's a bloody sight better than Win7! It's not a great deal better than Win10 in most respects, but security is better - though that needs some hardware integration, which won't be an issue if you're building a PC from scratch. I...
