Re: JYAI C-130J Specials

We used to overnight at Thule. The hangars are heated, including the floors - though there is a funny story about one hangar sinking after they discovered the floor wasn't sufficiently insulated so it melted the permafrost under the hangar!

Re: JYAI C-130J Specials

The 109th often operates from Thule AFB, Greenland, operating to several ice/snow strips around Arctic Canada and within the Arctic icesheet. I don't have any up-to-date info, but it's a lot closer to most people's area of interest than McMurdo is!

Re: A brand new MS Flight Simulator is coming...

I don't doubt for a minute that a new model for providing game content will throw up new technical challenges. As this community's continued engagement with FS9 shows, the advent of new technology does not invalidate existing stuff. We'll start to get an idea of how well this will work within the ne...

Re: A brand new MS Flight Simulator is coming...

Even the free WiFi in my hotel here in Atlanta is 60-80mbps. I have 200+ at home in Suffolk, but I’ve seen over 1Gb/s here. And it’s probably improving faster than MS can use. Bing/Google/Apple maps will stream HD full 3D satellite imagery quite happily at 10-15mbps, so I doubt you’ll need an outrag...

Re: JYAI C-130J Specials

Just a guess, but they look like E models to me. Note the wire going from the fuselage to the tail structure on the bottom picture (134). Mat The 'wire' is the HF aerial(s) (there are normally 2), fitted to all models up to the H2. The J has software-tuned solid-state HF aerials in the aircraft skin.

Re: An idea for increasing performance in P3Dv4

I also remove the default traffic files; I don't want 'Global' and all the other fake airlines, and the mix of GA is, as you've discovered, a bit unbalanced and generally inappropriate. Much better GA traffic is provided for the USA and Oz by Orbx' free traffic packages, and in UK by the UK2000 FSX ...

Re: A brand new MS Flight Simulator is coming...

As Microsoft have announced they’re taking back ownership of FSX from Steam, and as Dovetail failed to complete Flight Sim World, I’d be very surprised if they have anything to do with FS2020.

Re: JYAI C-130J Specials

Whilst things Hercules are still in peoples minds. It has been revealed that C5 ZH885 is the one sold to the USN for the Blue Angels. Also Bangladesh has acquired another 4 from the RAF to make a total of 5. Over and above this, it's just been announced that the remaining 14 C130Js (13 C4, 1 C5) wi...

Re: MAIW NBAI Boeing CH-47 Chinook Conversion Support

I could be wrong here but I seem to remember that Nick made the model w/o windows, some were created like that. The reason being that if you had windows you had to model, even basically, a cockpit which meant more polys and vertices. There were certain types where it was felt that as most people wo...

Re: MAIW NBAI Boeing CH-47 Chinook Conversion Support

Thanks Gavin. On the FS9 CH-47 model/paints I have, I haven't found the windows! I assume they're a separate part in the model somewhere, but in MCX (dev release), highlighting textures fails to reveal them. On other versions of the Chinook I've played with, it was easy, but these paints have no alp...

Good thing is I noticed I missed to include Ray Gulf War package. That calls for an update for some releases.
That would be great, Martin, as I couldn't find a way to make the cockpit windows transparent using the FS9 model and textures. My MCX-fu isn't that good!

Re: MAIW NBAI Boeing CH-47 Chinook Conversion Support

It's entirely possible, Steve, though I thought I'd covered that by copying the model from the Matrix folder, which was working. Anyway, it's all good now - thanks for being there to bounce ideas off!

Re: MAIW NBAI Boeing CH-47 Chinook Conversion Support

The reduced number of sections is because I've removed all the ROCAF and JASDF entries from the Hangar aircraft.cfg file, as they're duplicated in Matrix. I have finally solved the problem by replacing the model file with the one from the Matrix installation, and going through each .cfg entry that c...

Re: MAIW NBAI Boeing CH-47 Chinook Conversion Support

OK lets start with some simple elimination stuff. Tim, what version of P3D are you using? Also when I looked in the model.cfg for the P3D CH47D I noticed that it said :- normal= NBAI_Chinook P3D now the actual model is ' nbai_chinook P3D '. I don't know if it is case sensitive but try altering the ...

Re: MAIW NBAI Boeing CH-47 Chinook Conversion Support

Matrix only has the JASDF and ROCAF CH-47Ds - and they're fine. I've commented them out of the aircraft.cfg file for the full package. AI Aircraft Editor Net is reporting that the CH47D model doesn't exist in the full package. The file seems ok. I 'bak'd it and copied over the file from the Matrix a...
