Re: JYAI Boeing KC-46A’s

The 'heavy' appellation is for all aircraft of over 136 tonnes MTOW, plus certain aircraft (such as the 757) that give pronounced wake turbulence even below this weight. All 767 derivatives are over 136T, so should (in the US and Canada; nobody else cares much) use the 'heavy' term. It's not a tacti...

I'm not a fan of the Typhoon colour scheme, but never mind. Some great pictures, Dan. I even have a couple of these in my logbook!

Re: JYAI KC-10A

I've only tried the package in P3Dv5, but it's working fine (KC-10 package downloaded three days ago). A slight adjustment to the Travis AFC makes for more prototypically-correct operation (and a lot less endless taxying!); take-offs should be from the centre of the field (ie 3R, 21R) and landings t...

Re: Windows 11 (very early)

TPM on older CPUs/mobos is a bit of a lottery. Even on new ones it isn't great - my Aorus Pro X570/Ryzen 3900 combo regularly reports that the CPU has 'changed' and I need to accept the TPM again. My other computer is rather older, with a 6th-gen i5 on a Z170 mobo. TPM can be fitted as a module, but...

Re: Finningley 1990s P3Dv4

I've decided to pay for extra storage on OneDrive to avoid the problems of computer crashes in future! I had though that with two main desktops running my stuff I'd be safe, but I didn't do a good enough job of duplicating my projects after recovering from the first failure. The result of that was t...

Re: Kandahar MAI?

'Kandahar v1' is a freeware airfield by Dan Mesmer, produced about 10 years ago for FSX. (Available here ). There are, IIRC, several MAIW traffic files from that time that use it, and the author is a big fan of HeliTraffic 2009 to make it really prototypically busy. As HT2009 doesn't work in FSX:SE ...

Re: Finningley 1990s P3Dv4

I thought I'd better post to say that this project is not abandoned, but a lot of work was lost in two(!) separate SSD failures in the last 6 months. Despite no dedicated ground poly, and because of my over-ambitious use of SketchUp to create buildings that ended up too complex and memory-heavy (a c...

Re: MCAS Iwankuni SCENERY ISSUE

The Iwakuni photoreal background is included in P3Dv4 and v5 as a default feature, which is why I discovered the old MAIW version was in the wrong place. I think I lost the version that I rebuilt and is in the pictures in one or other computer SSD melt-down that I've had in the last year (there have...

Re: CFB Trenton Canada Missing Buildings

Didn't seem to make any difference, Steve. But I did that before I raised the whole field. It still undulates, which can hide part of some taxiway signs. What I might try is compiling it for v4, which should force the flat field. I'm heavily involved in real-world building atm, so I won't be feeding...

Re: CFB Trenton Canada Missing Buildings

I've found this to be an issue in P3Dv5, where the default airfield background may well undulate above and below whatever the field elevation is quoted as. I was playing with updating McEntire, and found I had to raise my airfield by about 5ft to clear the underlying default polygon. The previously ...

Re: MSFS installers insights.

I discovered that the last major update somehow invalidated the content from three of the previous updates - or there's been a significant change that demanded a reload - so they had to be updated again, which is why my SU5 update download total was so large. It does feel like the size of the progra...

Re: MSFS installers insights.

Well, that was a faff. Start MSFS - 'go to Microsoft Store for an update'. It takes forever to find out how to download an update from the store. Download and install (it's only a couple hundred Mb), restart the program - now it wants to install another update (just 304kb!!). WTF? Why can't updates ...

Re: MSFS installers insights.

I had that with Paderborn too! In fact, the entire update to SU5 and associated addons was over 120Gb! I noticed absolutely no difference in performance afterwards, but I haven't been measuring it and I use MSFS so rarely that it's a bit moot.

Re: JYAI KC-10A

After I expressed some reservations, I understood from Giorgio that we did have permission from JS to update his airfields to FSX (and by implication P3D), and that's the basis on which I did Grossetto for JY. I have several other JS airfields in the queue for similar updates, once I have time again...

Re: MSFS2020 AI - Good News

That's AI control of flyable aircraft, an option available while you're flying so that you can go and watch yourself from various viewpoints. It's not (yet) very good. It is not the AI system used for AI traffic. That said, AI behaviour in FS9/X/P3D isn't always sensible!

Re: Thoughts on the next project

For the Meteor, the principal versions in widespread service were the F4 (535 RAF), T7 (640 RAF), F8 (over 1000) , NF11 (311), NF12/13 (140) and NF14 (100). There were lots of export Meteors too, mainly F8 and T7. The Navy even had a carrier-borne F4 briefly. The major variations include fuselage le...

Re: Thoughts on the next project

The Meteor is an enormous subject, with the aircraft evolving hugely from the early single-seat fighter to the late two-seat radar-equipped night fighter. Used to be quite a few as gate guards around the RAF estate, and the RAF Vintage Pair kept one in the air until the unfortunate accident at Milde...

Re: No package for North Island NAS?

John Stinstrom did an excellent KNZY for FS9, but I'm afraid I can't find it anywhere on the webs just now. A modified version for FSX is here, but it may not work in FS9.
