Will we ever see the SR-71 in the Militart AI world?

Post by dk1213 »

I was thinking about that today, I flew by Beale AFB earlier and I wondered why such an iconic plane has never been modeled for AI use. It would be nice to see that sexy beast on the ramp at Beale or Kadena, or refuelling at Thule or Keflavik, maybe Orland AB. I mean, I know Team SDB made one back in the day, but I don't count that, I don't think anyone does lol.

I am imagining a high quality model, something of a John Young or Mad Mike Pearson caliber quality, with finishing touches and signature paint jobs by Mark Walsh, Mark Heimer or Ray Parker. Click click already did an awesome Kadena AB, John Stinstrom already did awesome versions of SR-71 hotspots with his versions of Beale AFB, Keflavik NAS, Aviano AB, Lajes AB, and Andersen AFB so really the blackbird already has high quality sceneries just waiting for it to tear down their runways headed for 85,000ft at Mach 3.2+.

That my friends, is what I call a sweet dream :)

Well, technically unless you are getting paid to do it..

I'd like to point out that Mike there and the rest of the MAIW crew had more to do with Kadenas awesomeness than I did. I just traced google earth and put legos in place. That said, I seem to remember rumors of an SR-71 floating around once. You never know. Brilliant surprises wait for those who don't expect them.

Why don't people just take up modeling? How many of these posts about an SR71 have we seen over the years?

I tried once, but was told in no uncertain terms that no one wants to see a 275lb man in skimpy underwear. Hopes and dreams RUINED!

I'm sorry, but there needs to be a "Post of the Week", and I think we have this weeks winner right there!

Me too .... I think that would be one really cool addition, I always assumed nobody did it due to the complex flight characteristics ..... I guess we just have to wait and see. I would be happy if I could even just convert my alphasim SR-71 to ai .... but that has not worked so far but I could be making mistakes. I got the alpha b-52 to work as AI for Minot and Barksdale but for whatever reason the SR just causes my sim to crash so I just gave up on it for now. Hopefully Menno kicks his off soon.

We learned a long time ago that people have to be left to work at their own timetable. Various things need to come together for a model to reach the public. We have to allow the modeller his space.
What is not be immediately obvious is that this is Menno's first offering to the world and to choose such a complicated shape is why I am prepared to give him all the time he needs.

Don't forget the scenery project that he is involved in for JY's Harriers.

Hi Guys,

The Blackbird is still under construction. The main model and lods are almost finished, just some small adjustments to do.
I only need more spare time, as I am busy with work and had some vacation. But it will be finished.
