6 Squadron Typhoon's.

Post by garysted »

Gents,

Here's a quick shot of the main ASP at Coningsby with the newly marked 6 Squadron Typhoon's working up prior to transfer to Leuchars.

Partly inspired by the pics below from last week.

It's only 7 aircraft - all that have been confirmed as marked so far - and FP's for MAIW waypoints and visits to Leuchars/Valley, available via email if wanted. Thanks to Nick for okaying the edits on his work.

Very nice pics and paints, Gary.

I think that if you could to brighten the blue and the red of the sqn markings up you would make the paints even closer to your pics. They seem a bit toned down in your sim pic.

Just as an added bit of trivia Gary.

It appears that the Squadron have retained their Jaguar days callsigns;

Boxer
Canon
Venom
Turbo

I think most (if not all) of their aircraft are now at Leuchars. 2 arrived for the official "stand-up" and 4 (I believe) arrived during the airshow.

Thanks guys,

I noticed the blue was a problem, and tried to sort it out earlier this evening, but I only know how edit these in MS Paint, and for some reason I can't get it to paste another shade of blue in there. I'll have another crack at it tomorrow and I'll re-edit if possible.

The FP's use 'Venom' and 'Turbo', which are the two I've heard with my own ears so far. 'Boxer' certainly goes back to the Jaguar days although I haven't heard it - or seen it quoted - since they started to work up a few months ago, same with 'Canon' which I assume is a reference to the Jag's old recce capability - although 41 used to have that commitment, I have seen and photographed 6 Sqn Jag's with the Vinten pod on the centreline. There's a reference on one of the forums somewhere a while ago to 'Blackcat' being used again, but I hope not as it's hardly appropiate!

The aircraft despatched to Leuchars for the show came back to Coningsby yesterday (not sure if everyone came back but seen pics of the majority returning). The latest info I've heard is that they're despatched permanently next week, maybe week after.

Hi Gary,

Obviously they're still in the transition phase at the moment.

As regards the colours. It might be wise to hang on a wee while mate. It's been mentioned elsewhere that these will be toned down somewhat, more in keeping with the lower vis markings on the other units.

If I hear anything more, I'll let you know.

Just a update on this. I've moved them upto Leuchars and added another jet, bringing them upto eight. Anybody who wants a update, or even the set from scratch just let me know.

Gents,

A further update. Aircraft count is now upto 13 airframes, including the first twin-stick. Email/PM me if anybody wants a update or even the lot from scratch.

Gents,

Everybody who has asked for the latest update should have copies now. Here's a couple of screenshots of 6 Sqn at Leuchars along with 111 in their last couple of months before they - and the F-3 - bite the dust.

The blue in the 6 Sqn badges has been edited to a better shade from previously. 111 F-3's are renumbered/coded from the existing F-3 package to represent the surviving F-3's as of late last year.
