Textures

Post by Rotten Ralph »

Does anyone know if the textures for the runway, taxiway etc can be changed/edited in ADE9 or TTools or any other program?
On Google earth & bing maps, the runway textures seem to be a beige colour rather that the grey textures in the usual programs.

Yes they can be changed and there are several downloads that replace the global runway textures. If I remember rightly I use AEU7 and AEU8, Airport Environment Update, theya re freeware. I am sure that there are payware ones as well.

But you have to change them out by changing the actual texture files inside the global texture folder. You can't make the changes with ADE9.

A trick you can use is to replace one of the obscure textures like "Brick" or "Coral" with a variation of concrete or asphalt thereby giving you multiple runway textures for the same surface.

Yes, but be careful. Look at one of the default textures first to see how it is created. You'll see that it has to be generic enough to use down the whole length of the taxiway or runway.

Thanks Mike, I will experiment. Sorry to be a pain, but can you tell me if the RAF Hangars will become available as I am trying to redo Mildenhall & I have US hangars as a replacement at the moment & the other one is the hardened shelters as I am also doing Ramstein until the ACG is available.
PS, I am having great fun with ADE9 & Sbuilder after seeing your tutorials. Cheers.

I could be wrong but you don't move the bgls into ADE9, you tell ADE9 where the bgls are. It is in the manual. The only thing that you have to add to an ADE9 directory is the thumbs. Again this is covered in the manual.

Thanks Steve, I will have another go when I get home tonight. I must admit, I cannot recall seeing any thumbs with the apache scenery file though?

There isn't any for the hangars. Somebody has to physically produce them and as far as I know nobody has for the Hangar lib. If you look under Resources on the main page you will see what have been created.
