South American scenery problem

Post by DaveB at EGCC »

I recently started to update all my civil AI flightplans for South American airlines, when I went to some of the main hubs for these carriers, like SBGR I found that all the areas around the airport had sunk by 2-3000 ft also tried SLLP and found the same! Low level airports are not effected.
I have no scenery add-ons for South America, the nearest is the MAIW 1st airshow, Bahamas.
I'm not sure how long this problem has existed as I dont fly the area very much!.

Any Ideas???

Many thanks.

It sounds to me like you have either added or deleted a mesh, probably added, does this sound familiar?

If I have, I dont know how, as I very rarely add any sceneries, unless they come in a package with a self installer.

OK, lets take this as gospel. It could be that the afcads are wrong. Is it that and area around the airfield is lower, or that the airfield is 2-3000' higher?

What is the afcad height compared to the default afcad height, this might give you the best idea.

Hi Steve,

Would a wrong afcad affect the scenery like that?, I checked SBGR yesterday and the airfield is at about 2,300ish ft, and all the area around it is at sea level.

Just remembered I used 'jetways & terminals by Jan Martins' for some of these airports, could that be the problem?

Many thanks

While I'm not ruling that out, I have not had this problem with Jan Martin's Jetways and Terminals package.

I visited all the included airports in his package. However, I did not necessarily check the surrounding airfields in this part of the world.

Hi Dave, it can do depending upon the make up of the afcad.

However, I have checked the default afcad for SBGR and found it at 2459.0'. At this time it would seem that either you have don't have the default South America scenery activated or installed, or it has become corrupt, or you have a giant rogue exclude file.

Can you confirm that you have an addon afcad for SBGR as well as the default showing in either afcad or AFX?

Throwing myself a bit of a red herring here, as I never put the South American airport sceneries on, and SBGR is not one of them anyway :oops:
Where would I check for the various items mentioned.

Many thanks.

Now replaced SAME folder in scenery file, taken from another PC, problem not solved!!

Doh! Sorry misread your post.
OK, check that your scenery.cfg file and see if you have something like this in there :-

Code: Select all

[Area.012]
Title=South America
Active=TRUE
Layer=14
Local=Scenery\Same
Remote=
Required=FALSE
Of course the Area and Layer numbers may be different but the critical thing is that you have the Active=TRUE part and that the Local is pointing to the correct directory.

I would also expect the Area and Layer numbers to be on the low side.

That part checks out ok, so it must be something else??

To look at, its like some of the holes or towers many people have found dotted around.

SLLP is a good one, sat on a plateu, with the small airfield just to the west, which is normaly in a basin, also on a plateu. looks very much like monument valley in the US.

OK, Dave.
Well I have covered everything that is easily fixable.
No mesh installed.
No scenery installed.
Default South America installed.

It sounds then like either something deep in the FS9 bowels is corrupt or there is a badly designed exclude, or VTPX, file somewhere in your system.
The only other thing I can suggest is that you try deleting \Flight Simulator 9\Scenery\Same\SCENERY.DAT and allowing FS9 to rebuild it.

The only way that I can think of to test this out is to take a copy of your scenery.cfg and amend ALL your scenery layers to Active=FALSE with the exception of leaving ALL the default MS layers active apart from the Addon Scenery.

This will then show only the default scenery, with no addon afcads. If you still have the problem then there is at least one corrupted or updated bgl file. Unless you know what or where it is the answer is going to be a re-install. If is shows fine then its a case of adding back the deactivated scenery layers until you find the culprit.

I should say that I have checked out SBGR on my system and its fine. I also found out that there is an updated version of FRF SBGR scenery on their website http://www.frfstudio.com/home.html. It appears that they will be putting updates there now and not on avsim.

Hi Steve,

That did the trick, took me over an hour, but found the culprit.

It was a scenery for Norfolk Island,NZ.

Many thanks for your help.

Excellent, Dave. Well done.
It can be tedious but sometimes its the only answer.

Hope that new version from FRF Studios for SBGR is to your liking.
