Royal Navy Phantoms

Post by hawk_sh »

OK, Phantom lovers here are some previews of the stuff I have been working on in the past months (beside my other major project):

The Phantoms that flew in the colors of the Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Navy.

It started back in April when I had just installed Ian Kirby's Ark Royal scenery and also written some flightplans to use AI aircraft as static scenery objects. So I tried to replace the Phantoms on the flight deck of the Ark Royal scenery with more detailed AI Phantom models made by Fernando Martinez. When browsing the popular file libraries I found a lot of AI Phantom repaints but none for the Royal Navy. At the same time I discovered the paintkit for Fernando Martinez' F-4C Phantom model. So I started my first ever attempt to create a repaint for a FS aircraft.
To cut a long story short I tried to add more and more details and at some point I had the ambition to not only do just one repaint but at least every squadron and finally every aircraft of each unit.

So here is the result:
Almost 150 textures for Fernando Martinez' excellent F-4B, F-4C and Phantom FGR.2 AI models.
Each set contains one texture for the F-4B model (which has folding wings and a suitable carrier FDE) and one texture for the F-4C model (early Phantom FG.1s) or the Phantom FGR.2 model for shore-based operations. There are also different weapon loadouts for each aircraft.

I just realized there was a major update of their image gallery last month ...

A quick question. Will the package come with flightplans or will we have to make our own?

This package will be textures only.

But I made some simple flightplans and AFCADs for the Ark Royal, mainly to populate the flightdeck with one aircraft taking off and landing every 15 or 20 minutes (similiar to the AI traffic of the Alphasim Enterprise or Kuznetsov).
My "flightplans" for RAF Leuchars will only park them on the flightline (one flight per week in the middle of the night).

If there is enough interest I will put them together in a seperate file.

Right, fair enough seeing how hard you obviously worked on the paints themselves-they look brilliant!

Sorry, but that package is nothing to do with us. As Fernando has left the scene we have to hope that somebody who has the authority will upload it again.

I am afraid Fernando Martinez' F-4B package is not on flightsim.com. I did not find it doing an intensive search.

But I think I was able to download it from AVSIM after the library was online again at the beginning of October. So the file seems to be still there and hopefully will be available again in the future.

In the meantime if anybody wants it, send me a PM.
