Henry Tomkiewicz C-130 Propellors

Post by Graham King »

I have been working on the alpha layer of the propellors in the last few weeks to try and make them more realistic. Below is the comparison with my old propellors, on the left, and the new ones. I have tried to make them less defined or more blurry whichever you fancy. The picture shows the C-130J but the C-130E/H have the same effect.

You can download the full set here: http://www.king.eclipse.co.uk/Packages/ ... ellors.zip

You will need to work out the colour bands of the props you are replacing and whether it is a C-130E/H or C-130J before copying the correct one into the texture folder of the aircraft.

Yea, definitely an improvement. For the package folks, don't forget that we have been using just the one prop texture for the HTAI models that is in the main FS9/Texture folder. The prop texture name is the exact same for the E,H and J models. So if you are not careful, you can overwrite the proper version of a prop texture when a package gets installed. Generally the E and H model prop texture can be used interchangably and that's the one that has been getting placed in the main texture folder. If you are using the J model, those prop textures need to stay in each aircraft's individual texture folder.

I think that the fun part is going to be working out which scheme goes with which version/nation. Its funny how before we were quite happy with the one default and now we want perfection.

Do you have any guide that you used when producing this, Graham?

Well, after going through all my installed herks yesterday to add these textures (many thanks graham for them Graham!), I can tell you that most US birds have the black one. Most, not all ;)

I have been thinking about this but the problem is that I have painted so many it would be a mammoth task. All I can remember is that the USAF have a black tip, the RAF have red white red.

There are a couple of USAF special schemes with coloured tips. If somebody finds them let me know and I will produce some more.

Finally found it, some of the paints in the C-130H folder from the Davis Monthan package have blue tips on the props, eg the texture in the folder for RCH_DM_41_73-1585.

Still looking for that one, the original paint file, but in the meantime I have found a couple of others.

RCH_XX_164_90-1794 in Great Lakes ANG Part 1 should have the yellow prop, this is the one with the D-Day stripes.

The C-130's in the Saudia E-3 Sentry package should all have the WIDE yellow prop.

I guess its going to be a slow laborious project replacing them all.

If you have not downloaded the prop textures I have updated it to include the blue and yellow one above. http://www.king.eclipse.co.uk/Packages/ ... ellors.zip

I have now worked out what changes need to be made to the MAIW packages. I am going to try and write a Visual Basic program to make the changes for you but if you are impatient then the changes are detailed in http://www.king.eclipse.co.uk/Packages/ ... _Props.zip. Do the folders list first, replace all the prop-hs.bmp files with the ones listed in the html file and do the aircraft list afterwards.

Quality, Graham.
I will have to take a look at that, once I have finished a little task that Barry has got me doing.
