Which C-17 do you recommend

Post by maddog65 »

I was wondering which C-17 does anyone recommend.
I know of the Mike Stone C-17
One from GMAX Academy and the FSD one.

There's also one from Alphasim too, but personally, I like flying the FSD one, although I made my won panel for it.

I got the FSD one as it looked the most promising, but I don't like the way it handles (it could just be me). Does anyone know if there is an updated FDE for it?

Area51 Simulations is suppose to be releasing an FSX/FS9 C-17 very shortly, but after they dropped the ball on their C-5, i'll stick with my FSD one - if it ain't broke, don't fix it! :) I did the same thing you did Dave (personalized my 2D panel). @maddog65: What kind of handling problems are you having? :?

The problem I am having is when I am making a approach for landing a little movement on the joystick and I darn near flip over. It only does it on this a/c so it puzzles me.

It's been a couple years since we did it. And we had to purchase/use a few payware items to get it to what it is now. :?

I knew about the UKMIL one but my rig doesn't like FSX that well (low fps) even though I exceed min requirements for FSX.

Wow, I've flown the C-17 from FSD over 400 hrs worth, and I've never had that problem. I've even done short field landings with her, and she flies like a dream.

BTW Johnny, very nice panel!!! :)

@maddog65:

When you say "flip," is it on the rwy when it flips, or still airborne? And when it flip's, does it flip on its nose or side? :? :shock:

Johnny,
I am still airborne, and the flip is side to side. It's more like a little push to the left or right on the stick sends me to a 45 degree bank. Like I said it is only on this a/c.

I also like the FSD version. I have never experienced the control problem such as flipping. Now I am curious and will play around with it. As far as sound is concerned, you could possibly assign a good Pratt&Whitney sound package created for the 757. The commercial design is PW2040 while this engine is also designated as F117-PW-100.

That almost sounds like you are in a lift stall. I see this in some AI tests when the aircraft gets so slow on approach that the AI engine is constantly banking from one side to the other in an effort to try and maintain a glide path. Try adding some speed on approach.
