Looking for Payware F-4 Phantom
Looking for Payware F-4 Phantom
Today was payday!
I've always wanted a payware F-4 Phantom, I know that AlphaSim has a couple and Cloud9 makes one as well.
What I'm looking for are first hand recommendations from those of you who might already have one of these models.
Thanks in advance.

The Cloud9 version is very good. I think you would like it.
Lead, Follow, or get the Hell out of the way!
Re: Looking for Payware F-4 Phantom
i only use the IRIS Phantom FGR2, it has good flight controls, great sound, and the afterburner is the best i've seen on any payware model. but thats just my view.
Re: Looking for Payware F-4 Phantom
I'll go with what Ray says - IMHO you can't beat the Iris version, which is British only, and it's nowhere near as heavy on the framerates (plus I've got a few additional RAF repaints for it!!)

Alpha's F-4 is CFS2 and FS2. I didn't see one for FS9
Re: Looking for Payware F-4 Phantom
At the bottom listed as Virtavia_F-4_Phantom_II_FS9.msi or set the box on the right to sort by date to bring it to the top.

If it had been a snake it would have bitten me
Thanks
Re: Looking for Payware F-4 Phantom
The AlphaSim F-4's for FS9 are now freeware, glad I didn't buy them!
Here's the link: http://www.easyfly.co.nz/Freeware/index.php
(I think they're in there somewhere...)

Any of that stuff worth getting?

Re: Looking for Payware F-4 Phantom
thanks for the link Mike, but i'm glad i never paid for that F-4 as well
Re: Looking for Payware F-4 Phantom
Well free is free.
Having said that I found that whilst AlphaSims models got better and better some of their fde's left a lot to be desired. As an example, I was able to pull a 'cobra' manoeuvre on take off in their latest F-4s without in smashing back down to earth in a great heap in a super stall. I know you could fly it sensibly and properly but part of the thing for fighters is pushing things to the limit.
It put me off and I haven't had the inclination to look at modding the fde.
P.S. I am not sure that those F-4s are the latest F-4s. They might be the early FS9 models rather than the late ones.

So how about a mini-review of IRIS/Alphasim/Cloud9?

Mike
Watch out with the RF4C in package # 3 .It plays havoc with Scenery ,although I only tried it @ Bagot.
Firebird
You're right it does fly like a generation 5 jet .I have the old/new/ flies like an F4 Alphasim F4 FDE if ya interested ?
I'll post it here tomorrow
Dustoff
The Cloud9 F4 is brilliant ! Flies ,acts , looks like an F4 . Their F104 is da same .They and Alphasim are IMHO the only 2 that have got the very subtle compound curves and lines around the F4's cockpit and nose right . Pull the nose up sharply and you'll get a dramatic pitchup ,especially with the 104 .
Cloud9's registration ,however, was/is very funky
Cheers

Re: Looking for Payware F-4 Phantom
Brian do you have the IRIS F-4 ???
Re: Looking for Payware F-4 Phantom
Ray
Nope, as they only had an English version if I remember right .If they made a US version I'd buy it in a heartbeat as their products are excellent ! I think I jumped the gun a bit with my previous post .Headon the Iris model IS the best around the cockpit . I remember now that the Cloud 9 model looked a little funky headon .
Cheers

Re: Looking for Payware F-4 Phantom
That's nice to hear, Ray.
I provided technical help to Dave on the model, but some AlphaSim staff slagged off the cockpit lighting as unrealistic. It would appear that none of them had actually seen an FGR2 cockpit or simulator.
