And Again.... problems...

Post by Javier Tapia »

Hi guys...
I have the following problem i haven't been ablo to fix.. and it really bothers me. :x

I have an airport where some aircraft land way before the runway.. and then taxies in stright line until they finaly reach the runway and leave on the first taxiway they find, which is where all the departing traffic is waiting... causing ai trafic to get stuct...

Does anybody knows a possible solution to this?

Thanks! :D

Obvious questions...
1. What airport?
2. What afcad/version of the afcad?
3. All aircraft or just some? If just some, which land correctly and which don't (this suggests a possible airfile problem.)

I happens with civilian traffic... what happens is that they desend from the cruise altitute too close to the airport and they simply go straight down (yes... a 737 with it's nose pointing at the water in exacly... or really close to 90°s) and then level at the airport ground altitute.

Since this is the only airport where it happens.... what could be the solution...

ohh...
The airport is Antofagasta SCFA... with the following AFD...

Are these true AI aircraft that are doing this? Or are they user aircraft that are being used for AI purposes?

Hmmm........that is weird. Let me look at the afcad you are using. Are there any terrain issues in the area? Also does your altitude in your Airports.txt file match your altitude from the afcad??

EDIT: The afcad looks good. There is a one foot difference between the runway and the runway link elevation, but that shouldn't cause the problems you are experiencing.

We've run into plenty of issues related to terrain mesh, mostly in South America it seems, but glad to hear you got it figured out.

Hi again... I ran into an other problem... hope you can help me again...
I got two airports that, no matter how many times I change the altitude in the AFD, they keep sinking, except for the runways that are floating to the right altitute.

The airports are SC0B and SCBE, they have custom AFD. I first thoght it was a problem with the mesh I had (wich has been erased due to the problems with SCFA) but now SC0B keeps bellow ground, and SCBE, that worked correctly started sinking...

I've added the AFDs, so if someone can give it a look I would much appreciate it... maybe there's someting I missed.

Thanks!

Javier, I wish I could solve your problem, but I can't. However, perhaps I can send you off on an Google advanced search adventure, that might prove productive.

About a half year ago or so, I was reading some material written by a guy who was into creating mesh files .. this is a hint on where to start your search .. and he mentioned that there can be more than one layer of mesh, only one of which will be the base for an afcad. He had explained a method for creating an artificial solid base to correct the problem you mention, or as an alternative, explained how to adjust the mesh to rise/sink to where you need the base for the afcad. It might take a little study to understand this, it was a little esoteric for me, but that is what you need to be looking for. Good Luck!

I've had this problem. Its to do with the altitude set in the underlying MS tile used in FS9. You can change by using JABBGL which is at AVSIM.

May be able to resolve your problem.

OK I had a quick look and found that the heights of the default MS scenery are 3475' for SCBE and 3000' for SC0B.

Now looking at the afcads I found that the heights are massively different, 3971.50' for SCBE and 3267.20' for SC0B.

Now if the traffic disappears w/o a trace or never appears as its so far below the horizon then its probable that this is the problem, normally however you sink a few feet below. Now this could be due to a couple of things on the afcads themselves. Both airfields have the height of the start locations, on the runways below the height of the runway, this may at least be part of the problem.

I would try amending the starting location for each runway, to see if that makes a difference.
