Nah..... The things are too expensive to risk losing one. Save them for Iran.

However something tells me that at least one of these is currently flying orbits out over the Med.....

Gaddafi has also pissed off his fellow Arab leaders over the years hence the reason they are keeping quiet. Don't think they would be so quiet if the West start to intervene in other Arab States.

Probably to much traffic, last night Fighter Control smashed it's online user record and went to a crawl....463 online.

Only if they are using their ICAO codes (CFC= Canadian Forces, RFR= RAF) otherwise no. And I've noticed there is no traffic shown near Libya, just wondering if the website operators have "censored" the data.

John,
In times of conflict you don't use mode 3A you use mode C transponders. Only military equipment will pick them up. You would only use 3A when traveling/transiting in Civvie air space, even if you carry ADS-B equipment.

Unless things have seriously changed since my day.

Yesterday evening the Canadian A310 flying Glasgow-Trapani was trackable on Flightradar24, as well as a French AF A430.
I just read that some B-2 have taken part to the strike, and the TV is reporting Eurofighters from Grosseto (ItAF 4th Stormo) landing at Trapani.

Regarding seeing them on online radar trackers or not, it all depends if the flight is flown GAT, OAT or mixed

GAT means General Air Traffic and is controlled by the civilians. It's basically all civilian traffic (except when chartered by the military) and they follow the civilian airways system. Filing a flightplan is mandatory so that's why they can be tracked.

OAT means Operational Air Traffic and is controlled by the military. These flights don't comply with the normal rules for air traffic. This means that these flights can use tactical callsigns and filing a flightplan is not always needed and even when they do, most civilian ATC systems will reject them because they won't control these flights. Normally, you won't see these on online trackers.

Military aircraft however can also fly GAT or mixed OAT/GAT, but that means they will have to comply with all national and ICAO rules. They will use their "liaison" callsign (CFC, RFR, BAF, FAF...) and file a flightplan using civilian routes.

At least that's how it works over Europe.

Very clear Greg!
As for the B-2s, they should fly directly from Whiteman.

I was very wary of putting anything up that involved departures of aircraft, specifically what looked like operational departures, but seeing as Sky TV has a news team on "the mound" and putting out live pictures of Typhoons taking off, then I thought so much for keeping things quiet.......the only odd thing about watching three Tiffies taking off is that it's Sunday, it's usually VERY quiet!
But it does put it in perspective when you see operational aircraft taking off from your living room and wondering where they are going to end up.......god speed boys (or girls, or both.... :? )

Its not military I know but I'm following Roman Abramovich's private 737 (P4-MES) on approach to Heathrow from Cannes. How did Chelsea do over the weekend?

No tracks for the RAF boys & girls on FlightRadar24, scoured the area but nothing. BTW UK Defence Minister has said Arab League units will be involved shortly. My gut feelings that if boots on the ground are going to be needed to back the rebels I suspect it would be better to be their brother Arabs then westerners. Gaddafi is already playing the Crusader card, bit hard if it is your fellow Muslims doing it though!
